Today I got up and went to history class. We watched the other groups presentations. I can't wait til that class is over with.
Then I went to Paranov and watched some dancers dance. They were good. They had one piece where they danced to themes from "Carmen."
Then we did our juries. This was the first time we've ever done juries for jazz. It was really nerve racking because we had no idea what we were going to do. Pretty much the whole jazz department was there: Rene, Stevie D, Nato, Shawn Montiero, Woodard, Rozie, Chris Casey and Greenfogel. I hit with Josh Bruneau, Rob Stragnell, Matt Kos, Kevin Grossman and myself. We played two tunes: "There Is No Greater Love" and "What Is This Thing Called Love?/Hot House." Kevin played the former and I played the latter.
After we played they all gave us comments. They told me that I had a good beat, but that I lacked fire. I also need to do more with the hi-hat, not just play the 2 and 4. I also need to make the ends of my 4's smoother so it can flow back into the next solo.
Lol, I wrote this all down in the blog so if I forget later, I can just check back.
The professors said as a whole we played really really well and at this point they were just nit-picking.
Then I went to the MPT course that I'm auditing. We're doing the mix down for "Under Pressure." I think later today I'm going to go to Trinity and do some research.
Tonight there's a bunch of cats hitting tonight, but I have so much homework I think I'm going to skip all of them.
The Zen Bar: Little Ugly and the Isaac Young Quartet
Szechuan Tokyo: Josh Evans, Jimmy Greene, Craig Hartley, Dezron Douglas and I don't know the drummer.
Vibz Uptown: Jovan Alexandre combo
I think what I should do is do my work for the history project and then start working on my News Journal. Maybe gym?? :-D
"Dane, you played really well. You never play this good in ensemble."
-Shawn Montiero
