Spoilers for the first 266 pages of A Dance with Dragons. Don't respond with anything later than that!
So, the book felt like it started kind slow (partly because I'd already read four of the early chapters, which had all been released as sample chapters at one time or another), but since then there have been some good moments. Jon executing Janos Slynt was well-deserved, but that was in one of the chapters I'd already read. The first big "holy shit" moment of the book was the Bloodraven reveal on page 177. I never expected that one in a million years. I guess Maester Aemon wasn't the oldest man in Westeros after all. I can't wait to see what happens there... Bran has never been one of my favorites, but at this point I'm more interested in his storyline than anyone else's.
Not quite as out of left field, but still surprising, was the Aegon reveal. I guess we now know who the third head of the dragon is? I'm not sure how people figured out (before this book) that he was still alive, but since I'd read some of the theories I wasn't taken completely unaware. But I didn't figure it out until Tyrion brought it into the open, since I couldn't think of any important characters who had a griffin as their sigil.
Anyway, time for some more reading!
