Vecchio! *adores* I could talk forever about all the things I adore him for, but I think
belmanoir's
list pretty much covers it. So I'll just give that a big WORD, and do a picspam instead:
My favourite due South moment ever. Oh, Ray!!
ALL THE LEAVES ARE BROWN! AND THE SKY IS GRAY! LA LA LA LA! ♥
Team Badass, reporting for duty.
Ray Vecchio secretly wanted to be Kate Jackson when he grew up.
Ahem. Right. Recs!

Why I'm reccing this fic: This fic took my heart, beat it up and then left it weeping in a snow bank. And yet, I completely adore it anyway. The fic takes a sharp turn into AUland towards the end of Victoria's Secret, and features just spot-on characterization of Vecchio. His heart and his loyalty are the things I love most about Vecchio, and this fic is a shining example of both.
Sleep's trailing them, swirls in the darkness that folds in after the car to block the way back. He wants coffee. The note in the pocket of his parka is written in black felt marker on a piece of paper with a ghosted illustration of The Big Nickel in the background. It's a date, a time, and "Crescent Moon Motel just outside of Britt" in familiar handwriting. The "R" on "Ray" looks like a weapon. "In the diner," it says. They'll have coffee there. He keeps thinking about the coffee waiting for him and Dief reads the road signs.

mondschein1Pairing: Gen (Vegas!Vecchio)
Rating: PG-13?
Length: ~2,600 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Oh, Vecchio! *sniffles* I love fics that deal with Vecchio's time in Vegas and this was one of the first ones I read that dealt with it in a serious way. I love the way this takes the Ray we all know and love and forces him to be The Bookman while still being Ray. Also, the formatting is a stroke of genius.
Sandoval jerks, and his head comes up -- and it nearly makes Langoustini lose his thread, because this kid's young. He's young, and he's furious, and he's too stupid to lie down and give up. He still thinks he's walking out of here alive. He still thinks the good guys have an inherent advantage, instead of a disadvantage. And he thinks he's got himself a clue.
He has no idea what he's got.
Little Ray And now, after all that angst... some porn:
Title: Boys Like Me / Girls Like You
Author:
catwalksalonePairing: Vecchio/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~1,700 words each
Why I'm reccing this fic: For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, Kowalski has been turned into a girl. And Vecchio? Poor Vecchio is trying so hard to be respectful and chivalrous, but it's really hard when girl!Kowalski is always there and horny and propositioning him.
Kowalski had the good grace to look slightly ashamed. It was still him in there, Ray knew, despite the soft-swelling curves, the delicately boned wrists and the sweeter-angled jaw. Still spiky Kowalski with his spiky hair and his spiky temper and his come-hither-now-fuck off prickles. And that was kind of the problem. Because Ray had just about come to terms with the fact that he wanted that Kowalski, spikes and man-parts and all and now the goal posts had shifted and, okay, so Kowalski didn't make the most feminine of girls but he was still...not...and Ray didn't know what to do about that.
