Why I'm reccing this fic: because it's Barbara Kowalski's slow, thoughtful discovery of who Ray's new love interest is. This story fleshes out Barbara Kowalski in such a wonderful manner, bringing her to life, giving her thoughts and dreams, hopes and aspirations for her son, like any mother would have...it's also an outstanding testament to how well our parents can know us.
First Week.
The hamper wasn’t empty, but there were no sheets in it. Barbara frowned, and checked the bedroom, and all the cupboards, but she couldn’t find the dirty sheets anywhere. Finally, she counted his sets: the blue ones, the white ones, the ugly grey striped ones, the ones with the little faded flowers…they were all there, and the ones on the bed were clean, too.
Ray had done his own laundry.
Except he hadn’t, because he hadn’t washed his clothes, only his sheets.
Hmm.
He hadn’t done that since he’d been a teenager, having wet dreams over Stella…
Oh.

Why I'm reccing this fic: because Barbara Kowalski is just that cool. This is a perfect example of what happens when Fraser and Ray come home unexpectedly, and get caught kissing by Ray's mother. And the aftermath of their "coming out."
And it was like a spell broke or something, so, flustered, he grabbed Fraser around the waist and hauled him inside because no way was he doing this alone. He pushed the door shut and said, "Um, hi Mum. Uh, wow. I didn't think you'd do the laundry today." He took Fraser's hat and laid it on the counter, then he stepped over the broken crockery, saying, "Don't move, let me get this. Have you met Fraser? Fraser, this is my mum." He got the dustpan from under the sink and swept up in record time.

Why I'm reccing this fic: because it's a wonderful riff off of Parental Guidence by the_star_fish, kassrachel and Alanna. And it's a wonderful angsty, sweet and fun story that I love a lot. So there.
Ray didn't know what was up with Fraser, but whatever it was, it had him distracted enough to trip over a coiled rope and fall into a vat of fish heads during an investigation down at the pier. The weirdest thing - apart from the fact that this was probably the first time Fraser had ever tripped over anything in his life - was that he didn't even seem to notice he was stinking worse than Dewey on a bad day. Ray practically had to drag him back to the apartment by his lanyard and throw him into the shower.
