Title: Into A Far Country
Author: keerawa
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: PG13
Length: 9k
Why I'm reccing this fic: because keerawa creates a moody, dark world in which the lines between real and magical have blurred and shifted. She gives us this story of Ray and Fraser, together but not, with Fraser damaged almost beyond recovery and Ray trying so hard to overcome that, but afraid. Afraid, but trying anyway, even when he's clearly in over his head.

It was about three in the morning, the coldest, darkest time of the night. Which felt right, for this. Ray put down a few layers of blankets, Fraser's and a few of his own. Then he laid down Fraser's things, the stuff Dief said he liked, on the ground. The pile of Fraser's clothes, with the Stetson on top, he reverently placed exactly where he'd found them in the first place.

Ray took off his boots and started stripping down, his breath coming out in white puffs. He folded up his clothes, quick and careful as he could, and made a pile of them, right next to Fraser's clothes. Then he jumped in between the blankets, waited for them to warm up, listened to the distant drone of traffic, and tried to slow his breathing so he could sleep.

Why I'm reccing this fic: because this story is a bittersweet tale of loss, of grief, and of healing. Little Boy Lost tells the story of a transformed Fraser and the way Kowalski and Vecchio deal with the transformation, each trying to do their best for Fraser, trying hard to do the right thing each in their own way. This is also a story that showcases the instinctive understanding of Fraser that RayK has, which makes them such a powerful duet.

Ray couldn’t quite hide his grin. There was no mistaking this kid for anyone but the uptight Mountie Ray had come to know over the last three years. Proper, serious and desperate to please, that was Ben Fraser. So Ray did what he always did when Fraser got too stodgy. He yanked his chain, hard.

Bending down, Ray took the boy’s hands in his own and eyed them closely. He turned them over and studied the fingernails. Then he grasped Ben’s chin and gave his face a good look. Pulling the boy closer, Ray tilted the small head and examined behind the ears. Ray straightened, tugged the boy against his hip and forced the dark head to bow so he could check the back of Ben’s neck. Then, while he was in the area, Ray tucked his hand through the opening at the neck of Ben’s shirt and tickled him all the way down his back.

Title: Les Revenants
Author: simplystars
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: R
Length: 3,4450 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: because I have a soft spot for zombie movies and this is what a due South zombie movie would be like. This story is written by simplystars's dark twin, the one who rips your heart out, stomps on it, brushes off the dust and hands it back to you. Bleak and real, this story moves along at a breakneck pace, never giving you a moment to catch your breath. Ray's narrative is matter of fact and to the point, but in the back of your mind is the itchy feeling that Ray's not looking too carefully at what is happening because he's afraid that if he does, he will start screaming and never stop. And he can't afford to do that.

Fraser hadn't even washed the blood from his hands and face; Ray had taken a few precious minutes to change his clothes, stripping out of his gore-stained t-shirt and kicking his spattered jeans across the bedroom, ripping off his socks and using them to wipe down his boots before dressing again, quickly, so quickly, fingers trembling. But when Ray threw a swift, assessing glance at the door and then rinsed a dishtowel in warm water, cupped Fraser's jaw and tried to clean him up, Fraser ducked his head and wrenched violently away from Ray. So Ray left him like that, buttoned up tight in battered, bloodstained serge and ripped jodhpurs, his hair sticky and matted in clumps, and instead herded Fraser toward the fire escape. Ray shoved the window up, calling for Dief to go first, and then he pushed Fraser through and followed.
