It never hurt anyone to re-read great fic, so I decided to go with fandom classics. Here are (some of) The Fics of My Heart:
Title: Kowalski Is Bleeding
Author:
cesperanzaPairing: Fraser/Kowalski, Vecchio/Stella
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~39500 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: All right, what to say about this story? You've all read it, right? Now, go and do it again! *g* Seriously though, how much do I love Vecchio here? I love him like whoa! :) This is my favourite Vecchio out of all Vecchios possible. And Fraser, woobie-ish and so stubborn, determined to find his Ray no matter what. *hearts* Remember that scene with RayK's glasses? Breaks my heart every time. And the structure of the fic? All those flashbacks that show us the relationship backstory? A work of genius, no doubt here. Honestly, I could go on forever, listing things I love about this fic, so let me just say that this is the story I re-read the most in due South. I return to it again and again, finding something that I crave at the moment each and every time (angst, hurt/comfort, friendship, love, slash, het, first time, established relationship, plot, a bit of AU, even humour, etc - you name it).
"He likes to dance, huh?" I asked Fraser.
Fraser turned his face away. "Yeah."
I sighed and tried to look at the room more like a detective. One corner was a little less cluttered than the rest, so I figured this was where they'd laid into Kowalski. I bent down to confirm this and saw a smear of blood on the white wall, and another on the edge of the battered roll top desk. Maybe Kowalski's blood, but maybe he'd managed to land a few punches himself.
"He any good at fighting?" I asked absently.
"Yeah." There was a strange undercurrent to Fraser's voice-like maybe he thought the question was funny. "You could say that."
"Aggressive?" I pressed, turning to look at him.
"Very."
"In other words, he's an asshole," I said, and to my surprise Fraser laughed.
"Completely and utterly, yes," Fraser admitted, grinning at the thought. "In fact, Ray's rather a colossal asshole, which is much of his charm."
I burst out laughing myself, half of out shock. "Wow, a colossal asshole-even better," I suggested. "Sounds like the Vecchio name's been in good hands."
Kowalski Is Bleeding Title: Playing Wolf
Author:
kelliemPairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~84300 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: I adore kidfic, no secret here. And this is a kidfic with a twist, which just makes it so much more delicious. [btw, dear strange non-kidfic people, your ways are foreign for me but I love you anyway, so I'll mention that you won't find any babies or children here; come on, don't be afraid! :)] I also have a great weakness for established relationship post-CotW F/K fic and this story satisfies that need perfectly. Add a bit of misunderstanding, a bit of jealousy, some angst about things long past, hot sex, interesting original characters and Kellie Matthews' brilliant writing, and you'll get one happy me. That is why I'm reccing this fic. :)
"Fraser? You forget you were supposed to meet me out . . . . " He shut up abruptly as he realized Fraser wasn't alone. A woman stood next to him, one hand on the back of his chair, the other on the desk as she leaned over his shoulder, long, dark hair falling across Fraser's shoulder in a way that put Ray's hackles up. Until Ray had started talking they had both been bent over, studying what looked like a map on the desk; now they were both looking at him with almost comically identical expressions of surprise.
The stranger straightened up, studying him curiously, and Ray realized with a shock that it wasn't a woman at all. The long hair had thrown him. The guy looked to be in his early twenties, and stood close to six feet tall, with caramel-colored skin and dark hair that fell to mid-back. It looked kind of weird, but good, with the crisp blue RCMP uniform he wore. He was also one of the best-looking guys Ray had ever seen. He could give Fraser a run for his money, which wasn't something that happened real often, in Ray's experience.
Fraser pushed back his chair and stood. "I'm sorry, Ray, time simply got away from me. Constable Tselihye's flight was delayed, and I've been filling him in a little about the city and his accommodations for the conference." He turned and gestured at the young man. "I'd like to introduce Constable Michael Tselihye, from the Inuvik detachment. Constable, this is Detective Ray Kowalski of the Chicago Police Department."
Putting together the name with his coloring, hair, and features, Ray caught a clue. He rubbed his hand against his hip to get the last of the rain off and then put it out. Tselihye grasped it, and they shook, firmly
"Nice to meet you," Ray said. "You're the guy they sent down for the seminar on International Aboriginal Justice at Northwestern, right?"
Playing Wolf Title: The Vigil Series
Author: Elaine Walker and Mitch Hudson
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~135000 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Four years ago I discovered slash and this was one of the first stories that I read in any fandom. And you know what they say about your firsts: they always stay with you, no matter what. :) So yeah, I have a soft spot for this story, nevermind that, imho, it isn't perfect and I've read better F/V fics since then. If you like long, epic stories (this one covers about 20 years of Fraser and RayV's life together), angst, kidfic, hurt/comfort, fics dealing with coming out and homophobia issues, then this story is for you.
He'd never thought in his wildest dreams (or was that his worst nightmare?) that she'd come back to Chicago, but she had. Her arms tightened around him, holding him so close he could smell her perfume. He could feel her hair tickle his cheek and neck, her breath caress his ear. He tried to check his trembling, but it was impossible.
"Victoria, why did you come back?"
"For you, Ben. Why else?"
"It's been almost a year. Why now? Things have changed."
"Yeah, well I had other things on my mind. But now I'm free. You were going to come with me, until he shot you."
"I was then, but not now. Victoria give it up. You can't win."
"Can't I? Just watch me."
"Give me the gun, Victoria."
She jabbed the gun viciously into his throat and he gasped, closing his eyes for a moment, sure he was going to die.
"How are you going to make me, Ben? Do you have a gun?" She laughed, already knowing the answer.
