P is for....

So, i-beloved has challenged me to list 10 things I love starting with the letter 'P'.

In no particular order,

  1. Perl - Always been a fan of this language since I saw my first, post-uni, hang-gliding boss writing a program that sent him weather maps from the BOM. These days I'm working on a program that emails me football scores from around the world.
  2. Phil Foglio - The first time I saw his artwork, I was hooked. It was the cover to Myth Adventures. Then I discovered the rest of his oeuvre. Great stuff. Not surprisingly, I think Girl Genius is great stuff (with his partner Kaja)
  3. Planetary - Quite simply one of my favourite comic series ever. Love how the homages were done, the different approaches. All good.
  4. Pineapple - Loved it since I was a kid. From the strangely sweet, tangy juice to the itching pain it leaves in the corners of my mouth as it leaves small cuts behind for the juice to seep into.
  5. Plays - I don't go to enough of these. Theatre has an intimacy that cinema can't match, on the other hand, when it's bad, it's equal to bad cinema.
  6. Praline - A wonderful thing to stick in chocolates, though really I just get a giggle as I remember Chief Constable Harry 'Snapper' Organs saying it out loud which segués nicely to...
  7. Python - Yes yes, one of the many here, though one of the only ones I know who has the Flying Circus on DVD. At the same time, I haven't seen Life of Brian. Which segués nicely to...
  8. Perversion - "Those who know me better, know better." - Marylin Monroe.
  9. Pantoum - A fantastic verse form. Line 1 and 3 become lines 2 and 4 of the next verse. Lines 1 and 3 of the second verse become 2 and 4 of the third and so on. The last verse uses lines 2 and 4 from the first verse as lines 1 and 3.
  10. Poetry - I nearly went the 'let's not be obvious and avoid using this' path and realised I was ..well, being obvious. I love language and it's many and varied practices. Poetry, that is to say, metrical writing, has been a part of my life for a lot longer than I'll admit. Every time I think about the first time I discovered an amazing poem in my youth, I realise it's pre-dated by some other similar incident. Currently it's finding a mini Burns book in my grandparents bookshelf.
