The Parking Lot - Friday Morning

Hawkeye wasn't entirely sure how he knew that it was time to go home. It may have been the restlessness (though Crabapple Cove wouldn't cure that). It may have been the call that Potter was sick and being a stubborn old mule about his treatment. Who knew with these things? The reason didn't matter. What did matter was that Hawkeye's apartment was cleared out, his very short notice of quitting was left at the clinic for Martha and there was a letter in the Winchesters' mail box for Zoe.

"Where to?" the cabbie asked after Hawkeye got into the cab.

"That depends," Hawkeye replied. "What year is it?"

"How much have you had to drink?"

"Never, ever enough. Humor me."

"1960."

"How do you feel about a leisurely drive to Maine?"

The cab driver's expression turned skeptical. "I'll take you as far as Baltimore if you have the cash."

"It's a good start," Hawkeye conceded. "Onward, driver! To the north!"

They started off heading for Baltimore with Hawkeye settling down for a nap in the back seat. He didn't need to see the island disappear behind them to know it was gone.

[OOC: And Hawkeye is headed home. Twas a fun run for him!]

the short goodbye
