Ah yes, getting gas. What fun...

So yeah, ouch.

It did make me wonder, though. I mean, just how much am I spending to make money? So I went ahead and did some calculations based on figures I just happened to have on hand, due of course to my Relentless Collection of Highly Structured Data:
(You ain't got nothin', wingywoof. You and your Excel...)

Based on how far I have to drive to and from work each day, price per gallon, car gas performance (based on a one month average), and salary, when I was hired here almost a year ago 4.488% of my pre-tax income went to gas, based on $2.099/gallon at that time. Taking the federal income tax into account, that was 4.748% of my paycheck.
Now, with today's prices and recent car performance, 7.801% of pre-tax income goes to just getting between home and work, or about 8.252% of my disposable income. Joy.
Yeah, sure, you're welcome. By the way, based on a 12-month average, I get 26.18432 miles to the gallon (average by filling), and in that time have driven 17,323.29 miles, consumed 673.978 gallons of gas, and spent $1,524.51 at the pump.

Oh, and by the way, if you hadn't noticed:
