You're correct regarding some racial minorities. I mean, there are lots of reasons why Obama got elected (economy, war), and why the gay measures passed (religious groups, population not ready, the Mormons who spent tons of money). But, from many of the analyses that I've read and seen, it really does seem like the biggest distinction of people voting against gay marriage and adoption had to do with age, and the traditionalism and religion that goes along with age.

But, I actually agree with you to some extent. I don't personally care too much if marriage is defined by the government or not. I think that if it is, then it must be equal. However, if the government got out of marriage completely, and did not issue licenses to heterosexual or homosexual couples, I would be completely fine with that too. The point is, whatever happens, it must be done equally.

And, I used to identify as Libertarian too. I think socially, the libertarians are right on about nearly everything. And, I think that in an ideal world, libertarianism would be great. But, as I've thought about it more and more, I realize there are a lot of greedy people in the world who are willing to take advantage of other people over and over. And, that economically, Libertarianism isn't practical. In theory, I think it's a great philosphy though. So, I don't think you're crazy.
