it appears that the theory* holds true. the new project pitchfork album sucks.
now, i'm making a snap judgement here. i'll admit that. i haven't even listened to the entire thing all the way through. but 10 songs in i'm considering just ignoring that this album ever happened and waiting for the next one to come out (c.f. "alpha omega," "eon:eon"). i admit there's a chance this one will grow on me, but i'm just bored at this point.
* it is a commonly held theory (by me) that odd numbered project pitchfork albums will suck, whereas even numbered ones will not. of course, i'm starting the count with ... uh, that one before "IO," so maybe it's not the most reliable system, but let's think about this:
(that one before IO) - sucked.
IO - was actually a really good album, solid all the way through with some really fine standouts ("renascence").
alpha omega - sucked a lot.
chakra red - come on, this was a fantastic album. the lyrics were terrible but it was definitely one of the better electro albums of the mid-90s.
eon:eon - possibly the worst album they've ever done. "carnival?" come on guys. i'll admit that "orange moon" had that really cool vocal effect, though, and "i live your dream" had a great single edit.
daimonaion - decent album. there were some really good songs on here, and some filler, but by and large it was enjoyable.
inferno - sucks. not as much as eon:eon or alpha omega, but so far, i'm really annoyed with it.
only time will tell.
