Chapter Ten: Calling in the Parental Units

Within a few hours, the press had the whole story. Well. The story that Ronny chose to give, that was. It was basically the part about John asking Bobby to go out with him, but more sappy,if that was possible. And everything had been fine and dandy with the news report going out, and John and Bobby not getting many repercussions(except, of course, Bobby’s too full emails from the people over at Dry_Ice) until Madeline and William Drake picked up the magazine that Ronny was brandishing about in the morning.

**

Ring ring, ring ring! Ring ring, ring ring! Bobby woke up with a jerk, not exactly realizing where he was at the moment. His eyes adjusted and Bobby saw a sleepy John peering down at him…OH!

It all hit Bobby with a flash.

They were still in Remy’s car. They got held up by some minor things, and Bobby had fallen asleep with his head in John’s lap. Aww. Now if only the folks over at Dry_Ice could see him now, heheh.

The moment was over, however, as his phone rang again. Bobby grumbled something which made John grin (no doubt it was probably something Bobby would usually say) and groped for his phone in his pants pocket.

He pulled it out and flipped the top open, not really registering what the numbers were on the phone. He yawned, feeling John’s hands run through his hair as John settled down, probably going to sleep again.

“Hello?” Bobby asked finally, shifting into a better position against John, getting more comfortable.

“Robert? Robert, where are you?” The rather annoying voice called out of the phone. Bobby nearly dropped that phone as the voice clicked inside his head, Robert ringing through his ears.

Robert…

Robert…

Robert.

Only three people could call him Robert. Jean-Paul and…

Oh god.

His parents.

Bobby jerked awake, getting off of John and sitting up straight, brushing the ‘dust’ off of his clothes as if his parents could see him.

“H-Hello, Mom. I just thought it’d be nice to take a little vacation and-“

“With-With that John fellow?” She cut Bobby off rather rudely and loudly, saying John’s name as if it was some sort of curse word, because god forbid his oldest son was…Gay!

She asked it so loudly that even John heard it, and, of course John got worried. And angry. He shifted closer to Bobby, but Bobby just shook his head, and even the presence of John couldn’t calm him down. Bobby opened his mouth to answer his mother but not being able to. He was cut off, once again.

“Robert, your darling brother told us everything.” And they were speaking as if his brother was so important, like he meant so much. Like…They were trying to get him to be jealous and come home. “I want you home, now. Just wait ‘till your father hears about this-doubtless he’s already heart but-“ John took the phone from the flinching Bobby.

“I’m terribly sorry, Mrs. Drake,” Sarcasm laced his words, showing his obvious and blatant dislike for the woman. “But ‘Robert’ won’t be coming home for a while. He’s rather happy here, isn’t that right, Bobby?” He turned the phone to Bobby, a frown deep on his face. “Yeah, Mom. And tell Ronny to call me- I need to have a word with him.” He said quickly. And then John brought the phone back. “Don’t worry. No need to call again. Goodbye now.” He forced a smile on his face and then John shut the phone.

“I never really liked parents.” John said absently, wrapping an arm around Bobby, who leaned into his grip.

Bobby didn’t give much response to this and just sighed. He was just about to fall asleep again, too, when suddenly…

The car slowed to a stop.
