Hasty music

Looks like tomorrow is going to suck so I'll put out this week's music links today. We have a wide variety of sounds to sample - if there's any theme it's that all of them have a kind of urgency and a moving energy.

Another I-can't-stop-playing-this hit off Armen Van Buuren's "A State of Trance" podcast. This is tyDi (https://www.facebook.com/tyDimusic), an Australian DJ, with his new track "When I Go." The front singer is Sarah Howells, a UK-based trance singer. The first link is the original mix and video, which is good. The second link is the Arnej remix that AVB featured and it's awesome. It's cleaned up, sped up a bit, and definitely more intensely dancey than the original. Arnej adds in some more complex rhythms that help punch things up.

Bastille (http://www.bastillebastille.com/bad-blood-album/) have a new album coming out and this - Pompeii - is their latest single from it. It's a fascinating blend of styles. There are male harmonies that make me think of traditional Irish ballads, but they're laid over urgent African-influenced drum rhythms. The effect is simultaneously warm and a little haunting. I realize I'm totally failing to convey this - give it a listen.

This one showed up from at least two sources and both times I bookmarked it within the first 45 seconds. OK, try to imagine if you filtered some 50s rockabilly through modern electro-disco, by way of psychadelia. Yeah, I didn't think that would help but really that's what we have here. Mr Mitsuhirato (http://soundcloud.com/mrmitsuhirato) despite the name is a Portugese remixer. Here he's taking Django Django's (http://www.djangodjango.co.uk/) "Default" and giving it a whole new feel. The original is spacey psychedelia that Django Django are generally known for. I like the remix a lot better.

Last time I mentioned Monarchy's new "Disintegration" track I said it would be fun to see what the remixers do with it. So far this is my favorite take on it, done by Mike Luck. The remix is more energetic and a bit less sad than the original; he also has some fun looping and echoing the vocals.

Maribou State (http://soundcloud.com/mariboustate) are a UK remix duo with a gentle electro-synth sound. This single, Mask, lays those gentle layers over a soft but urgent beat that leave me thinking about driving down a quiet highway late at night. My only complaint is that at 4 minutes the track feels too short. I hope someone will do an extended mix of this one.
