Wakeboarding Is Hard

At least it is for me, I couldn't really get the board above the water. This was Sunday. A couple of us struggled to get up above the water, only one newbie ever really succeeding. Joe, the owner of the boat, put us all to shame and showed us how to do it right.

Friday was birthday dinner with my parents at Las Canteras in Adams Morgan. My parents offered suggestions to the waitress that they fully expected to be passed along to the bartender (for pisco sours) and the chef. I'm not holding my breath on any changes. Their food was still pretty good and the quinoa chocolate cake, advertised as the healthy option for dessert (although I wonder how much healthier it really was) was delicious. The menu was somewhat limited, they didn't have a few items that were being offered on the website. Their excuse for this was that they just opened (true, a few months back) and this was their "summer menu". I'll have to come back here in the fall when they offer a weekend brunch. Peruvian breakfasts are usually pretty good.

Saturday was another day of dining out. This time we went with Daisy's dad and stepmom at another new restaurant, Brasserie Beck, a Belgian restaurant with Chimay on tap! Daisy said although the mussels she ordered were good, they weren't quite as good as another Belgian restaurant in our area that we really like. My order of Choucroute "En croute" (white sausage with sauerkraut in puff pastry, think beef wellington) was really good. The belgian bread pudding was the by far best bread pudding I've ever had. I'd even consider coming back here just for dessert. One neat thing they do is for coffee orders. They actually bring the french press to the table and filter the coffee for you as you watch.

Gluttony continues this Friday when we fly out to Vegas. Vegas, baby!

Update: I forgot to mentioned where I was wakeboarding. This was on the Potomac just north of Reagan National Airport.
