I'm so glad all of those questions came through. I was trying to create a story where the reader could believe in both/either possibility.

I did wonder if the door was like a metaphor for her brother's disappearance, but I like the idea that it only opens at certain times better.

hehe, it could be. She was very young at the time. Or it could be like fairies - adults can't see them, but children can *cue creepy music*
