Today I hiked through some rainforest, pet kangaroos and wallaby's and...AND...AND....I held a koala bear :)
Koalas are not as vicious or smelly as people said...it was freakin' adorable!
My time thus far in Australia has been interesting. My flight to Brisbane from NZ got fucked when there was a medical emergency halfway enroute to Australia, so we TURNED AROUND (wtf?) and flew to Christchurch so the person could be transported to the hospital. The flight was supposed to take something like 4 hours, but we were on that plane for well over 10 hours. It is hands down the WORST flight i've ever been on.
When I arrived in Brisbane it was SUPER late and I'd already missed the shuttle I'd booked to my accommodation by...well...hours. Luckily they knew of the flight delay so I was able to catch a different shuttle to my hostel. I was pretty worried that I wouldn't be able to get into the hostel being as it was so late, but (again) thankfully they had late night staff on duty.
I should have just slept at the airport in all honesty, because I had to be back there bright and early to catch my flight to Cairns. I didn't sleep at all, miserably rolled out of the uncomfortable bed, and headed to the transit centre to catch a shuttle BACK to the airport. The kicker here is that I ONCE AGAIN missed my goddamn shuttle, but this time it's because I underestimated how long it would take to walk to the transit centre with my heavy and awkward bags. I actually SAW my shuttle driving off without me. In a panic I ran around and asked if there were any other ways out to the airport that would be leaving soon...I ended up taking a train to the airport about 40 minutes after I should have already left FOR the airport. I cut things EXTREMELY close, but managed to get to my terminal JUST as they started boarding.
It's been an exciting past couple of days. Now that I'm in Cairns though, everything is good and I've had a chance to just sit back, breathe and enjoy a little vacation.
Tomorrow, if the weather permits, I am going to be scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. I can not begin to describe how flippin' excited I am for this.
