So, If all goes to plan, I'm going to be purchasing my plane tickets to New Zealand tomorrow. My internship ends on August 15th, and that leaves me 10 days till classes start for the fall semester. Those 10 days will be spent in Australia! I decided I'm just going to pick one of the major cities and go there and get the most out of one city rather ( Read more... )

Why Brisbane? Well, it's not AS big as Sydney or Melbourne, it's on the coast (not that the others aren't), it's further north (so it will be up to 10 degrees warmer 'cause i'll be there during their winter - and I still want to go scuba diving etc.). My aunt said Brisbane was a bit more raw and less city-centric than Melbourne and Sydney, which is appealing.

I don't know, I don't have a lot of time to really research stuff properly, but I KNOW I have to get my plane ticket asap! so...I am sorta making a snap decision. If you know of compelling reasons why one of the other cities would be a much better place to spend 10 days, you should definitely let me know!

Erin's party is more than likely going to be that first weekend after finals, but we're double checking that it doesn't conflict with anything for Sara&Josh.

all i know about Australia i learned from finding nemo and the crocodile Dundee movies....oh and that vegmite tastes like poo and fosters is Australian for beer....... :-D

brisbane looks like a slightly more tropical version of detroit 50 years ago. i know they have a china town, somewhere in the downtown area and that there is a lagoon.

you mean the 25th of april weekend? if it is let me know so i can plan moving accordingly.

you know more about australia than I do then...

10 days isn't really enough time for me to travel all up and down, so I think it's a pretty solid plan to pick a major city and then do smaller excursions around that one city. I'm hoping to do great barrier reef stuff (which I need to check into that you can DO from Brisbane), and I'd also like to "explore the outback" a little bit (i.e. get outside of the city far enough that I actually get to see some nature)

Yes, tentatively I am planning on April 26th for Erin's bachelorette party. This way school will be over so people won't be stressing out and additionally they may still be in the area because school is JUST getting out.
