oh sweet jeebus.

is it wrong that i might have a crush on the drummer for Guster?
That show was absolutely amazing. i came close to losing it.

Let me set a scene for you. The opening band, Wheat, was pretty good. As James put it, they were Vermont. Not just from Vermont, but the human forms OF Vermont. i dunno either....but they were. And they were actually really good. They go off stage. In the next 20 minutes, fog fills the stage. techies unveil the hand drum set (omg fap fap). Finally you're like "come on come on...i've been waiting for this moment for about a month now. get on stage, damnit". and they do.

The hand drum kit is comprised of several different types. In the back left there were the smaller, sharper sounding drums. then there was a perfect cymbal. The wilted disk was positions perfectly for pawing later. then he had this elephant leg of a bass drum. I think if it made any lower of a sound, everyone in the audience would have crapped themselves. It was one of the sexiest pieces of musical equipment i have ever seen. I think i felt something rupture every time he hit it...but i'm not sure. just beyond that gigantic thing they were trying to pass as a drum (i have no idea how they carried it in) were the little bongo drums. then a bigger, more normal looking than the elephant-leg-drums drums. next to the hand-drums was a normal drum kit. When he moved onto that little thing, i wanted to cry. It just didn't have nearly the same effect. When he played that big set, though. let me put it this way: it could make a grown man cry. It was beautiful. the way he moved his hands.....it was as if there was some sort of magnetic attraction between his hands and the drum set. like he was trying desperately to keep his hands away from the next hit, but they were being drawn to the next drum by some invisible force that refused to let go. He would bring his hand up kinda slow, only for it to smash down with such precision as i have never seen on the next drum. He is the epitome of hand drumming. Dear lord, it was good.

Not too much to say about the two guitarists and their friend that played every now and then. They were rather....nondescript, i'd say. James says the guitarist with a lower voice is cool. i was too busy watching the drums to notice. Actually, i do have a little to say about that. His face....well...have any of you ever seen that episode of dexter's lab where he gets the plastic face for photo day? It looked almost like it was fakey....i dunno...maybe he had some sort of flat make up on. Who knows. The other guy, the main singer guy, had really frizzy weird hair. and his nose was a 30-60-90 triangle taped onto his face. i swear.

The crowd was great. There was so much energy. or maybe it was the resonance put out by that gi-normous drum. there were people all around us just dancing. mostly girls. i really like those kinds of people. the ones that just have that inner-fire. It really strikes a chord deep within me. very interesting. It's rare that you come across them...well, for me anyway. and i've found that when you actually get a chance to know someone like that, make sure you really get to know them well. and don't let go. those people will be your best friends. cherish them.

If ever you get the chance, go see Guster live. They said there's a new album coming out in June and they'll be touring after that. for godsake, people, go see them. alos in concert news, incubus is coming soonish. i'm going to say Incubus is the best band i've seen in concert. And i will: "Incubus is the best band i've seen in concert". told you i would say it. They're one band where you can really tell that months and months have been spent perfecting one song for a live performance. really truly the best concert i've ever been to. Guster is in a very close second, though. See you all later.
