Summary: In which the Doctor is Less Than Pleased.
He's been gone barely half an hour when the communicator on his wrist shrills a distress signal from the TARDIS.
"Amy? Amy!?" The Doctor taps it with the fingers of his other hand and holds it up to his ear. Nothing. He turns and heads back the way he came, frowning at the unhelpful orange and blue lights blinking on the communicator. He points the sonic at it and is rewarded with some pointless green lights being added to the orange and blue ones.
He'd left Amy peacefully reading in the library after she'd looked out the TARDIS door and declared their destination (Earth, America, November, 1992) both too cold and too boring. The Doctor had silently agreed, particularly since he was there to intervene in a matter of even more boring politics. It would have been nice to have Rory with him, Rory didn't mind the less-than-thrilling parts of saving the universe. But Rory was home visiting family and that left him with one slightly cranky, easily bored Pond.
The Doctor runs the rest of the way back.
"Amy?!" He throws himself through the door, out of breath, eyes wild.
Still no answer. He takes the sonic out of his jacket pocket on his way across the empty console room and holds it in front of him as he moves further into the interior of the TARDIS.
The pitch goes up alarmingly as he nears the library.
"Oh, this is really very not good," he mutters, turning the doorknob as quietly as possible.
When the door swing open a fraction, the Doctor peers in, then sags back against the wall in relief. Just Amy. He'd half expected to find a room full of imagined-up Roman soldiers. But it's just Amy in only a bra and her standard issue barely-there skirt, no signs of imminent danger.
A giggle comes from within the library. A girl's voice that he can't quite pin down.
"I like you," the mystery voice declares to Amy. "I thought I wouldn't, you getting to travel around with him while I've been looking ever since I was born."
"We seem to have that in common, actually," Amy replies.
"And it's a married couple now? He had two women with him last time."
The girl with the voice he almost recognizes steps into view, wearing absolutely nothing but a halo of golden blonde hair. She settles herself into one of the plush library chairs with her back to the Doctor and beckons Amy over.
"Two, hmm? How kinky." The Doctor watches as Amy unhooks her bra and crosses the short distance to the other girl. "Too bad for me I seem to be the only girl along for the ride this time. Your timing really couldn't be better." She grins and lets the bra drop. "I'm supposed to be quietly reading a book, you know."
Another giggle. "Well, of course, Dad wouldn't have you neglect your education at this young age."
Dad.
Amy drops to her knees and out of the Doctor's sight. The girl in the chair makes a sound of appreciation and stretches her arms over head. "Mmm, it's been a
very long journey. Oh,
God, that feels good."
Dad??!
The Doctor watches helplessly for a moment as it all clicks into place. Only it doesn't. How could Amy have remembered someone into existence who she never knew existed?
Wait. Is that even important right now ?
"JENNY?!"
Both girls jump up and have the decency to look briefly guilty. Amy ducks back down behind the chair to retrieve her bra.
"Hello, Dad." Jenny stretches again, cat-like. "As I was saying to Amy here, it's been a long journey. Even a soldier needs some relief. I've got an awful lot of pent up frustration. Talk about a dead-beat dad."
"Dead.
You were dead. I watched you die."
"Well, no, obviously I'm not." Jenny glides over and takes his hands in hers. She tilts her head and searches his face until she apparently finds what she was looking for. "Found you," she says with a smile.
"Can you stop...
being so naked!" he shouts, shaking her hands off. The TARDIS had been right, this was most distressing.
"Oh, Dad," Jenny waves a dismissive hand at him. "Get over it. Now, please, please can you leave for a bit so Amy and I can finish up? Unless you want to...I mean, we don't exactly have any of the
normal familiar bonds and you certainly look closer to my age this time around..."
He's horrified. "No! You girls get dressed this instant. We are going to sit down and have..tea," he splutters. "And a very long talk about how all this happened and what you are absolutely
not allowed to do on my ship!"
Jenny rolls her eyes at Amy, who winks back at her.
"Fine, whatever you want. Let us get dressed, alright?"
The Doctor pulls a hand down his face as if he can wipe the images out of his brain. For once, words utterly fail him and he walks out of the library in a daze, heading vaguely in the direction of the kitchen.
Tea, he thinks.
I'll make us all some nice tea.

Amy slips an arm around Jenny's waist as the door closes. "You may just be the first thing he's ever encountered that he has no idea how to handle."
"Good," Jenny laughs. "That's what he gets for making me chase him all over the universe."
She twines one hand in Amy's hair and pulls her close. "Now, how long did you say he made you wait again?"
***
The Doctor spends a very long, very boring period of time staring into his cup of cold tea.
