HEY KIDS SKETCHJOURNAL TIME AMIRITE?

STARTING OFF THIS SHOW WITH A BIG MOSTLY BORING DRAWING. THAT IS HOW. I. ROLL.

I've been doing a lot of dicking around with my wordpress/comicpress site and it is SLOW. GOING. This is me trying to doodle up some layouts because it turns out I can't just dick around in comicpress to get what I want, I have to kind of have an idea of it before I start, whups.

And then I got a wave of "I need more characters in the LA" panic, and started making a list of Indian mythical creatures to live there because ummmmm there aren't enough Indian critters in the LA. Ravi and Bhadraksh don't really count, as I kinda sorta made them up/Noseless Ones were invented by Europeans ABOUT India, not actually natively Indian. I'm just saying I need some Kinnaras and some Yakshis and some Garuda and Naga up in here.

I also tweaked Jack's design a bit. I can't decide what sorta heritage jackalopes have. I guess it doesn't really matter since Jack can look however he wants and can change his face every dang day if he so chooses. We also have a crappy Kinnara (I will have to figure out their designs later), a surprised Tim, and a satyr who's face I really really really like. He might become a character. Or at least someone who's in the background a lot because I basically could draw him forever.

A little Moleskine doodle. It started with me drawing Jim and Lorne as Floyd and Dr. Teeth, and then ended with me writing down a bunch of Halloween costumes these two have had together. They have done collab costumes every single year that they've known each other. The first was Mario and Koopa Paratroopa, FUN FAX.

ANOTHER FUN FACT: I want to make this costume so bad it hurts I already have the boots and the bass guys, IT'S PRACTICALLY ALREADY MADE AMIRITE? Floyd is the best Muppet ever I WILL HAVE NO NAYSAYING, CHARLES.

Okay so sfemonster told me that there is an ALICE IN WONDERLAND TEA PARTY in Vancouver every year. So of course we immediately decided that AT SOME POINT WE HAVE TO DO THIS TOGETHER. Naturally we would be the Gryphon and the Mock Turtle, because they are clearly the best characters in the entire book and they constantly get the finger from movie adaptations. I want to do a sort of Edwardian Gentleman sort of masquerade-type of costume, with a fancy suit that is also tarted up to look like a gryphon. I originally thought to use those little duck-wing looking wings you wear on your back, but then I thought it would be cool to have the wings be on the back of the coat, and have the coattails cut like feathers at the bottom. I got the idea from this thing Shoomlah did and I've always wanted to try it.

Also a couple Michelle's for good measure. Michelle is angry because I gave her 70s hair.

Another Moleskine drawing of the costume. I had another idea that integrated 3D wings into the printed coat, but that would just be too impossible I think.

Also there's Tobias! Fun fact: common gryphons are born without "ears" and they grow in as they age. They're not really ears, but rather feather clumps similar to the great horned owl's "horns". This is why Martha has ears but Tobias doesn't. He'll get them later.

And finally some FINN ACTION. Colin FINALLY shows up in the page after next, so I am jazzed. He absolutely WORSHIPS Jim and looks quite a lot like him (more than his other brothers did as his age, at least), except he has his father's beak and his mother's coloring while Jim has the opposite. They're pretty similar personality-wise, too, except Colin is a little more of a deliberate troublemaker while Jim was just obliviously hyper all the time.

At the bottom are Paul and Tobias at Colin's age, for reference. Paul was a very careful and deliberate cub, always perfectly groomed and acting much older for his age. Tobias looks like he was born with a permanent scowl, but a lot of it is that common gryphons have bird faces and they are a little less emotive than the others. He was actually a pretty happy cub, except that he was heavily picked on by both Paul and Jim, because brothers are bastards.

AND THAT'S IT, KIDS.
