Well hello there! Nice to see you, come on in!
It's been a while since I've updated. I'm at Rhode Island College for the fall semester. I commute there rather than living in the weird dorms. I got a car the week before school starts so that's been very helpful.
RIC is ok. It's not great, but it's not horrible. My classes are alright. I'll go through them:
Music Theory: What I thought would be my favorite is now my least favorite. Not because of what I'm learning; it's because my teacher sucks. She's a supposedly famous composer, but absolutely sucks at teaching theory. We haven't been taught anything the past 5 classes. I miss Mr. Lepore and theory.
Sight Singing: My favorite class. My teacher rocks. She's really funny and energetic. I look forward to that class all the time.
Writing: In a class of 26 students and 1 teacher, the teacher and I are the only males. That's right, 25 girls, me, and my teacher. Think it would be a guy's heaven, right? Not at all. It sucks a lot. My teacher is good though. The girls are all either really preppy or really weird. It's an easy class though.
Western History: This class is kind of interesting. It starts with world history and ends with stuff covered in european history. It's like taking freshman and sophomore history together in 4 months rather than 2 years. The teacher is boring sometimes, yet fun at other times
Percussion Ensemble: It's kind of cool. Mike Dequattro is a cool teacher. There's only 7 of us, which is really cool. We get a lot of work done.
Jazz Band: It's going to be a lot of fun. There are two drummers, me and this other guy that's a Math Ed. grad student, but so far, I've gotten more songs than him. The director is cool too.
Wind Ensemble: Oh how I dread this....Dr. Franzblau doesn't like me anymore because I had to tell him I was transferring to Berklee. This was the 3rd day of school I told him, and he basically put down everything I was doing and made me feel like the stupidest person in the world. Berklee is definitely right for the major I want, and RIC doesn't have what I want. Anyway, Franzblau isn't a great director, the musicians act like they don't want to be there, their musicality is not great, and my parts suck. Franzblau insisted that I should join because he really needed me, yet he gave me parts that are literally 8 measures long in a 10 minute long piece. It's a waste of time.
I also take percussion lessons with Mike Dequattro, which is fun, and my new set teacher is really good.
I went to Boston last weekend, stayed with Cat at MCP, and it was awesome. I can't wait to go to Boston for school. Her school is really nice. Places we went to included Hard Rock Cafe, Prudential Center, and many T-rides. I can't wait to go back.
I'm out for now. I'll try to update more often.
Later.
