The hike from the top of the Waimea Canyon down to the Napali coastline is 11 miles. Piece of cake for two experienced hikers like the Gilpins. It's coming back up that's a bitch. And no cozy B&B at the bottom either. I would like to try it one year but will have to wait for some of the kids to get a little older. Of course, I'll be a little older as well...

Those Monk Seals know they've got it good and they like to park themselves on the best beaches knowing that the Monk Seal Protection Squad will be round to put up the yellow tape to keep those pesky humans away. I swear, some of those Monk Seal people are worse than Cat Ladies!

I really didn't mind the pink bike... too much. It was the fact that the seat was lower to accommodate my mom and we had no tools to raise it up a bit for me.

Nothing like lightly shaved ice with sweet flavored syrup poured all over it to cool you down. They also offer a scoop of ice cream and sweet Azuki beans on the bottom but I haven't tried that yet. There are a few shave ice trucks that make the rounds in Los Angeles and they post their locations of their web site. So far, nothing local enough for a trip to see how they stack up.
