A Dedication

A friend of mine through another site wrote a poem some years ago - whence he glanced upon my portfolio he spoke of how one of my photos in particular reminded him of his poem. I supply for your perusal said photograph and poem, with the hope that you enjoy them both.

Wildwood Dark

We crept the brambly edges
of our wildwood dark,
through densely nettled underbrush,
through stinging burr and thistle,
till we met that thorny tangle,
that wild rose thicket,
that pierced our tender skins
and drew a crimson dew that trickled
from fresh slits we thrilled in fiercely.

Delighted with our bold prurience,
we bore our pain with feral grace.

Those we'd left behind,
lost in love for us, so blind,
would never find us betwixt
those tricky barbed switches.
We knew in what wickedness
we'd risk our severed souls
and lay scarred, yet unashamed,
in that damp and darkened loam.

Alone in our adulterous lust,
               our trespasses now immune
to the worn sanctimony of fools.

Thus with insatiate thirst we supped
from one another's gaping cuts,
then kissed with lips that dripped
our bittersweet commingled blood.
Its sanguine bouquet permeated the mist
and as our waxen bodies cooled in the dusk
we lapped the last droplets
to the creak of dying wood.

Oh, what earthy music to swoon by
                  in those furtive, unholy shadows
                  of  our thorny wildwood dark.
