Heh, started looking at grad schools before I left, on a whim, almost missed dinner because of it. Wouldn't have mattered since Commons was CLEARLY getting rid of what they had, more so than normal. They were like, "Eat Seitan with poorly-cooked rice! Oh and these....things, eat them too!"
So yeah, we went to Applebee's. Where Good Ol' Twaffle made the comment "hamburgers are eight-8 DOLLARS!?"
However, regardless of dinner for that night, I have a list of like 15 grad schools with some sort of Chinese program/ language class. I want at least a Master's to get me some sort of credit for interpretation/ translation services for job prospects. Or I could just rely on trying to get a job in China translating their stuff into English, but who knows.
Trying to work on improving my English grammar in the hopes it will make Chinese somewhat easier. I don't understand English grammar, so that serves as a hindrance to language study. I had planned to study a pocket-style manual over break, except that I left it in the room. Oops. So I've studied Chinese once, done the push-up program once. Also saw some friends once and am trying to see more.
I need to go to bed earlier so that I stop waking up at like 3:15pm when the day is pretty much over. Especially considering I'll have Econ three days a week at 8:45am! Ugh, not looking forward to that, at least class on TTH isn't until 2:00; it's a Rob class though meaning I'll probably wake up at 8ish anyhow just to make sure I've done all the readings I need to.
So far this break I've gotten into contact with someone who has actually gone to my study abroad location and actually stayed there for more than 10 days, I've started watching "Greek" on Hulu since I'm so far behind in my trash TV-watching. I've also read some of her notes about China and her travels therein. My grades are sweet, yet typically Beloit. I earned 3 B's and 1 A; the A being in the one class I disliked and saw myself doing poorly in. Would like to do pleasureable reading, but am sans said reading material; textbooks aren't that fun.
Christmas was pretty okay. I got a lot of clothes, mostly clothes actually. I also got South Park Seasons 2-4 DVDs which were probably the best part and 160 RenMinBi for China. Family came, they all enjoyed the Wii Sports, though I was less-than-enthusiastic about getting a Wii, but whatever.
Next Semester I'm taking Econ 199 with Josh Hall, Chinese Religions (RLST 200) with Natalie Gummer, who I found out might be accompanying us to China next Fall. I'm also taking Chinese 115 with Shin still and another Anthropology 375 class with Rob this one will be about Medieval Mangers of China and how to run vast empires. I'm probably working at the scene shop still, barring some unfortunateness.
I haven't seen much in theaters with DC prices being like 9.50 for matinee and $12 for regular admission. I want to see Role Models, and now Doubt. I'm also considering trying out for Doubt if they can give me a schedule (they being both Phi Psi AND the Theater Dept) as I've seen first and second hand how the department runs (and ruins!) lives. Might be a pledge educator again, unless they decide to change it. Speaking of which, must talk to Jish.
I'm being harassed to go play Wii Bowling con la familia (see Silky, I can speak Spanish!!). Speaking of which, I'm looking for free and good websites from which to learn Spanish online, and not just some 10-day trial stuff. Yes, I'm actually succumbing to the notion of being useful for translating and interpreting.
And that's the way it is.
