Family Vacation Day 8

Jul 08, 2004 11:18

I woke up to a rainy Day 8. We had planned on going hiking on one of the nature trails but it looked like it might not happen. While eating lunch it stopped raining, so Dawn and I decided to give it an optomistic try anyway. After driving down to the beginning of the nature trail through spotty areas of rain, when we got there it again was not raining. We decided to take an umbrella just in case, and we headed down the trail. It was nice and cool from the rain with a chill breeze. The night before for some reason I had thought about how much I liked fall weather, and this temperature and breeze was exactly what I had thought about. It was like a crisp October day. We spent about 3 hours on the trail and saw such features as an abandoned mining prospect, a few pit excavation sites, and lots of interesting plants and flowers as well as some little animals like playful chipmunks and inquisitive birds. About halfway through the trail the clouds went away and the sun came out to warm us up a bit. The breeze was still cool but the sun was warm. It was perfect weather for a hike. After heading back to the condo I spent some time reading and playing with the nieces, then had dinner and spent the rest of the evening working from my K&R C book.
