From
slashdot:
"Those people who fear cyborgs can
rest easy. The Food and Drug Administration voted to reject
Abiomed's request to sell artificial hearts to people who have suffered heart failure and exhausted their treatment options. The FDA stated that there was too little gain with too many adverse side effects in the limited trial run (17 people underwent the procedure). Although this isn't quite the same product mentioned in previous
slashdot coverage, it does seem like a setback towards replacing failing organs with fully artificial ones."
How do you feel about this?
Seems to me that John Stossel talked about this not too long ago. And not too long before that. And before that it wasn't a long time, either. Actually, I've heard a lot of people mention the idea that the FDA's monopoly on science and medicine is a bad thing for freedom.
"This Friday on "20/20" I say Give Me A Break to the FDA. The government tells us to protect ourselves against the sun, but they won't allow us to have the best sunscreen. They won't even say why."
Did anybody catch it? I missed it.
But I didn't miss these two articles (
#1,
#2) that he wrote.
