The Owlery Interviews: Mr. Bear, Yellowstone NP Souvenir Bear
Q: You are originally from Yellowstone National Park, right?
A: Yes, I was born in Yellowstone but was driven to other parts of the country at a young age because of trouble with the authorities. Eventually the law did catch up with me and I ended up having to do a lot of community service with Smokey, but that's a whole nother story...
Q: Some bears do have a reputation for unruly behavior. Would you say that you are a reformed bear?
A: Oh yeah, you know kids will be kids... I sowed my wild oats and I had to eat the oatmeal, you know what I'm saying?
Q: Can you tell us about the collar/ leash that you wear?
A: Well, I used to roll with the Black Bruins and we all wore the leash back in those days. I guess we thought it looked tough, but really our bark was a lot worse than our bite. I pretty much just wear it on special occasions now.
Q: What message would you like to give to any young cubs who might be out there reading this interview right now?
A: You know, listen to your momma, eat your veggies, stay in school, live a good life. And remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires.
