My mother is currently in hospital at the george elliot hospital in nuneaton
I just had an update from my brother about my mothers care hospital care... my brother is quite less than impressed at various things.
It was bad enough that they would leave her over half an hour after pressing the buzzer for help from the nurses (when she needed to go to the toilet or needed a drink). there is a long list of other complaints... one of the other dr's speaking to a patient in the bed opposite my mother said rather loudly that he only has diabetes, its not like it's cancer or something terminal; this was bad enough with the insensitivity to other patients on the ward who could hear him... what my brother found out later from hearing other conversations is that this particular patient has developed diabetes as a result of the steroids he is on to treat the cancer that is in his bones.
But the worse thing he has witnessed was just now... an old lady dropped her drugs on the floor, and a nurse very kindly helped her pick them up; and gave them back to this lady to consume. My brother asked my mum when the floors were last scrubbed and apparently she hasn't seen them done since tuesday (when she was admitted). Apart from utter astonishment i told mark he has to get her off that ward as soon as possible and he needs to go to the complaints desc and ask to speak to someone as senior as possible in the hospital. It didn't take much persuasion from me, in fact i expect that given a minute or more to get over this he would have gone and done it anyway without my prompting.
I am still shocked and astonished at all the stuff i have been hearing back from this ward, its a death sentance waiting to happen.
