Being God isn't what Cas wanted but he found himself stuck with the position, temporarily he hoped. He was in Heaven, but not the Wednesday afternoon he was accustomed to. There was no sun hanging happily in the sky, no warm breeze on his face or any grass under feet and the colorful that he usually saw fluttering in the sky wasn't there. Just a desolate and dark place, maybe God didn't have a Heaven. He walked slowly and carefully through a prepared path that led to a door he'd never seen before. “Cas? If it's even you anymore, I just wanted to apologize, okay?” Dean's voice began ringing in his ears and he stopped. “I can't do this. I'm not God, I'm not worthy of this power.” He thought as drew in a long breath, “I need to fix this.” He closed his eyes and imagined the Winchesters, but in the beginning when they didn't know him. He opened his eyes to see a motel in front of him, the drizzle had stopped along with him as he noticed the Impala sitting in the grungy parking lot. God tilted his head and smiled softly before hearing the familiar sound of Dean's voice arguing with some woman. He hid quickly, forgetting basic nature to be invisible to the people around. “I can't save you Dean.” the woman's voice said, drifting across the silence. “Then why are you lying to Sam?” Dean said, his voice gritty and full of anguish. “Because I need him Dean, he's important.” the woman was standing her ground against Dean well, thought God as he stood in the shadows staring. “Ruby, get out or the next time I see you I will kill you.” Dean said, his voice low and menacing. Then Dean turned around and stomped toward his room. “What an idiot.” Ruby muttered as she stood, staring at Dean's motel door. God tried to adjust his position, attempting a better view at the stranger but stepped on a piece of glass, shattering it to pieces. Ruby turned quickly, her eyes were the familiar and reflective black. She appeared in front of him and stared, “Who are you?” Her voice was much scarier up close and God couldn't think of what to say. “Well?” She asked, her tone getting impatient with the strange trench coated man. “I'm God.” He said and she began laughing. “You, God? You must be kidding me.” She couldn't stop the obnoxious laughter. He stared at her, his eyes narrowing and his head tilting, “Why don't you believe me?” He said. Demons were all the same to him, they were Crowley's people and he killed almost every single one on sight but there was something about Ruby he didn't understand. She seemed like she genuinely cared about Sam, for some odd reason and he didn't think it was right to smite her. “Well if you are God, what are you doing here?” She asked trying to decide whether to kill the man or give him some spare change. He thought for a minute and the silence grew unbearable for Ruby who's patience was very limited anyway. “Speak up oh holy one.” She mocked. He cleared his throat and decided that no one would believe what she said anyway, “I've come to become an angel again. Being God isn't my duty, I'm just Castiel. I came here because I'm trying to see what happened in the past. I'm trying to fix my mistakes.” His voice was shaky but she listened with a carefully picked expression on her face. “So you're an angel who became God but you don't want to be God because it sucks miserably and you came to fix mistakes? But who's mistakes exactly?” The street light above them flickered before God continued, “I'm here to fix the mistakes I made that hurt the Winchesters. I ruined a lot of things in my time and I need to fix them before I can become myself again.” His face was a void of emotion as he finished the sentence. “You know the Winchesters, wait you're friends with them?” The disbelief was hard to hide. “I raised Dean and Sam from perdition. I'm their angel and at one point we were like a family, before I became this.” His hands moved down his body. “Well how are you going to fix it now if they don't know who you are?” She knew he couldn't lie about raising the Winchesters from perdition. “I'm not sure.” He looked down and tried to think of some way to fix his problems. “Look here Rorschach. I'm going to help you out because you really aren't faking the God thing and you aren't a crazy homeless man but you can't tell them about it, alright?” She asked gesturing toward the Impala and motel. He nodded and she smiled, “Good! Let's get a move on shall we?” Her mood had switched immediately to a peppy schoolgirl as they walked away from the filthy motel.
