HOORAY FOR FOOD

Jul 25, 2007 20:12

Yeah, I need a BFest wrap up post. I did a little buying this year:

1. Celebration model "Painted RuggedLark" (OK, free)
2. Volunteer Model "Blue Grass" blue roan Strapless (OK free)
3. A Lakeshore Art of Fire on the Marshall mold. He is cool, and still enroute.
4. Gifts for neices and Skye and Dave!
5. An LB Scale running calf. Can you say AMEN
6. Horse poop in clear resin and china.
7. Tent SR "Rushmore" who is a red roan Smarty Jones and is prettier after living here a day or so
8. Stealth Tent SR "Cream Soda" the G3 SM Drafter in a pretty metallic palomino. A keychain
9. A plum brown Fury with an intact snap saddle
10. Mega jumper tack set by Corrine Endsor

I also caught up with Sue Bensema and entered her lottery, spent alot of time jabbering with Cindy from Lakeshore and the Boguckis. So need to upload photos. I am in love with this black and white pinto saddlebred stallion who I COULD NOT get a decent photo of in the arena. OHMY. So completely not my type, with his silver painted hooves and high action. Gorgeous.

I think I also got semi decent shots of John Henry this year. He was out grazing when I paid my annual visit. For 32 he looks damn good. I keep expecting him to be gone. I got bad photos of Cigar. One year he will be outside for me--he and I share a birthday!

Yesterday was Dave's birthday and we went crabbing. It was a lot of fun. We got 13 HUGE crabs that his mom cooked up and we ate. We even had leftovers (more on that) Then I picked up my car from the shop (it was getting its 190,000 mile primping) and Dave and I pretty much spent the evening hanging out. Or something. Hee.

This morning, I had to work, and Max almost immediatly tried to overheat. I caught my mechanic who found an unsecured hose (I am sure someone got bitched out for this) and got to work more or less in time for my first appointment. The day was smooth and busy but not off the hook. Our sole male tech, Jose got going about food (there are a bunch of us who talk about what we ate, and you know what's good, and what we are planning on eating later) and announced that he'd thrown together garlic and basil and tomatoes (from plants I started. Jose is in love with those tomato plants) and fetticini and I got to thinking I could whoop that up for dinner tonight.

So I did. But I used an eggplant instead of the pasta, and I threw in the leftover crab and a shot or three of Bloomer Creek Reserve White...and really, all it needed was some feta that I don't have. So, that is my local grown meal this week, since I grew the eggplant, tomato and basil, and the garlic came from a local farm, and we caught the crabs. Only the wine and oil are not from here, and the wine is only from 200 miles away.

Jose said he made something called "sofrito" that is some combination of herbs and peppers that you use to flavor Spanish cooking. He makes it up and keeps it frozen, and says to use ONLY A LITTLE BIT when you cook. He is bringing me some to try out.

My plans for the Bird Conference have radically altered and I'll be headed south to Dad's instead. More possibly later, I am kind of wrapping my head around things yet.
