~laughs~ Oz can never have too many dick measuring contests! ;-)
Aw, I like that Sean is out to his mother. I could see his family being traditional Irish-Catholics where being gay would be a big problem, so it's nice that his mother is accepting, even if she's not entirely realistic.
My disappointment that Toby's back to doing drugs as well as the drinking is lessened slightly by the fact that at least he feels guilty about it. I love that he snaps every time at the mention of his kids.
"I'd have given my left nut to eavesdrop on that conversation."
ME TOO. It sounds like Toby's mother suspects what's up if she's brave enough to force a meeting with Chris, and kudos to Chris for listening to what she had to say.
I love the subtle perceptiveness of Sean (and Ryan!) about Chris, and Mineo about Toby. This chapter in particular was like a study in who's (not) fooling who, begging the bigger question of what are they going to do about it. Sean needs to work on getting Toby straightened out--him getting sent back to Oz would be the last thing that Sean needs right now.
I know, right? I mean, absolutely everything that happens in Oz is a dick measuring contest, but the closer they are to literal, the more I like them.
There's something about Sean, the deep-rooted easy-goingness, perhaps, that in my mind says he came from one of those incredibly nice families. You know, those families where everyone is just so staggeringly kind and nice, and the siblings are best friends, and the parents are patient and wise, and it's completely alien because the way I understand family is stroppiness and keeping out of each other's business and as kids we spent most of our time trying to kill each other.
I want to hear the conversation between Chris and Victoria too! I have some idea, but I absolutely cannot picture the two of them together. My brain is totally blank on it, so it's lucky this story is hard Sean-pov and I didn't have to figure it out.
omg, you're so right. Y'know, I hadn't once thought about how Sean should be terrified at this point of Toby ending up back in Oz. So thank you for mentioning that so I can work it in and pretend I'd thought it up myself.
