The device is encased in a plastic box about the size of a briefcase with a wire attached to a metal rod with a voltmeter dial soldered to it which Egon is wielding in one hand. The box has a strap that's slung over Egon's shoulder. It's emitting funny whirs and clicks that speed up and slow down as he moves around. Sometimes when the device exhibits a lot of activity Egon stops and takes some notes and makes some calculations before moving on.
If you're curious, Egon might just tell you what the heck that thing is. It goes berserk whenever it comes close to a ghost or other supernatural being...]
