A little love, A little care, A little naw, A little bite.

“You, know, I’m just not feeling the love, here.” The Octopus' silk smooth voice echoed in the cavernous tunnel. Ten miles beneath the earth, a sewer for all intents and purposes. But to The Octopus, it was his realm, for now anyway.

“Should you be?” Was the tart and short reply of the short vision of black and white in front of him.

“A little appreciation would be nice, Dr. Floss. After all I've done for you.” She grimaced as a hand reached out to grab her as she tried to turn away from him. She was so shocked by the touch that she jumped and spilled the contents of her medical bag, test tubes crashing to the floor, papers and scalpels scattering on the filthy floor.

“All you've done for me? You mean all you have done for yourself. You've turned me into...into...” She couldn't even come up with a word for it.

“I have turned you into the greatest surgeon of this or any century. Look at the work you did on my precious Lorelei. Not a scar. Not a pinch of flesh out of place. Perfection. And you're not happy with that.” White teeth flashed in the darkness, a purple gloved hand still holding her in place.

“You have made me into what you wanted. This was never what I wanted...I wanted...”

“To be a little house wife? To be The Spirit's little housewife? Get in line, sister.” He gave a derisive laugh and let her go. She immediately was on her knees to pick up her equipment, the things that hadn't shattered. He was luck that nothing explosive had been in there. Or contagious.

“No, I want to feel things again. I don't want to be who I was.”

“An idiot. A simpering little girl looking for approval from professors who had no understanding of her. From a boyfriend who would rather marry her and hide her away in a house. To bog her down with five kids and a dog. I've made you a woman. A powerful woman, rich from knowledge. Grown fat from it. There's nothing sexier, baby.” His voice caressed her, slipping over her shoulders, worming it's way into
her mind and making her skin crawl. The thought made her sick. She knew it was the truth. The pure and simple kind of truth that one could not run from. She would not let him know. Ever. She merely stared at her hands as she gathered her papers, there had been glass in the mix and her fingers were bleeding, saturating the paper. He saw them and tsked.

“And now you've gone and messed your pristine little hands. Come here,
baby. Daddy will fix it.” He grinned in the darkness. She hated him and it seethed in her voice.

“I can handle it.” She barked. She dropped the papers in to her bag again, getting up with all the grace she could manage and walking to the sink, one of the clean areas, running the faucet to clean out her wounds.

“I realize that you think you are never wrong. I’m here to inform you that you are mistaken.” He was behind her now, his hands resting on her shoulders, waiting, waiting for her answer. She gulped at the hands resting on her shoulders. The thick leather material of his gloves seeping their coolness down through the thin material of her shirt.

“Well, you are the boss.”

“That's right. I am the boss. And you need to learn that. I think you forget sometimes.” He squeezed her, his strength coming through and she nearly gasped from the sheer force and strength. He could break her like a twig.

“If you do THAT again, I’ll…” His voice rose abruptly and was suppressed by her's as she scoffed.

“Break me? You need me. You know that. I know that. Don't make me laugh.” She nearly did, it was the only emotion that she had vocalized all evening. The mouth behind her turned down into a scowl.

“You know, I had a woman break my heart, once. So I killed her. Don't make the same mistake...” Lifting, he squeezed tighter, something gave a light pop in her shoulder and he let go, letting her crumple and fall to the floor with out warning her.

“I'll keep that in mind, sir.” She said shortly, her shoulders trembling with pain and fear, the only sign of the emotion she would ever give him. He gave her a curt nod, adjusted his gloves and walked away.
