in rainbows

so I "bought" the new radiohead album yesterday online. I put the quotation marks around the word bought because I didn't actually pay for it. As most of you know, Radiohead have instituted a pay what you want system for their new album online, which is basically exactly what it sounds like. You type in the amount you want to pay and that's what they charge you. If you type 0 pounds (yes, they do it in pounds), you pay zero pounds, if you type in 20 pounds, you are charged 20 pounds. Regardless of what you pay, you are then sent a download link in your email and you then go and download the mp3s. It's pretty sweet. The album is great. I had forgotten how good Radiohead are. I'll admit it, i'd been a turned off by the fact that EVERYONE seemed to love them and were playing them all the time a few years back. I remember getting annoyed ever time Ari would put them on in the car. Whatever. This new album is great. It sounds like an album that would have followed The Bends, because it lacks a lot of the crazy electronica stuff from Kid A and the other later ones. I find I can understand what he's saying on most of the tracks too.
Anyways, I realize that it is sort of a dick move to pay nothing for the album, but the way I see it, they gave me the option and I took it. Plus, I think the very reason Radiohead can afford to do something like this is because of the very fact that they really don't need my 5 pounds in the first place. I'm not saying the just because someone is rich, gives me the right to steal from them, but if they give me the option of not paying, i'm not going to feel bad about taking and enjoying their music for free.

On a side note, the MP3s didn't come with any album art, and being the guy that I am, I went on google image search and typed "in rainbows" into the search field and the following picture was the seventh image listed. And being that this post is seems to be all about me sharing things about myself that aren't that flattering, I'll admit that I fell instantly in love with this girl and it is now my favorite album art in my iTunes library. I challenge any man to look at that face (never mind her other attributes) and not wish she was your girlfriend. It just can't be done.

In other news, I'm leaving Melbourne this coming Tuesday morning at 10am and will be landing in Los Angeles at 7am that same morning. Weird huh?
I'm very sad to be leaving all the new friends I have made down here and to have to go back to "the real world" and start working for a living. boooo. I know I'll be back soon so it makes it a little easier. eeeeeeee.
Life: it's a rollercoaster.
