Can I Keep It? [3/4] anonymous September 19 2011, 02:27:25 UTC

Psyche accompanied Tsugaru to the vet. Tsugaru was off, Psyche was not. He would have scolded his lover for calling in sick for such a menial reason if he did not need the help to watch all the kittens. Two of the cats always managed to find a reason to brawl, one of the kittens insisted on flaunting his bravado by mounting the other kittens, and the last of the troublemakers tried to bite at any kitten that approached. The other kittens were fairly agreeable, even if one of them meowed constantly. Sometimes it meowed because it was hungry, sometimes it meowed because it wanted attention, sometimes it meowed because another kitten was pestering it, but Tsugaru suspected it meowed just because it liked to meow.

The two humans sat in a vet room with a clothes hamper in each lap, covered in old bed sheets and fur sheddings. The cats tried to tumble out of the makeshift containers but they huddled the rambunctious kittens together as best they could.

The female vet entered with a paperclip board in her arm. She looked at one man to the other before jotting down notes. "Names?"

"Orihara Psyche and Heiwajima Tsugaru," Psyche said.

"Not your names," she corrected, shooting an icy glare at the pair. "The names of your pets."

"Oh, actually they're not ours..."

"Ah, we haven't named them yet..."

Tsugaru and Psyche looked at each other, both blushing.

"For documentation purposes, I must have a name for each creature we treat. I don't care what it is, just choose something." She was already filling in the names as Seiji. Mankind could benefit from more Seiji in the world.

"Well..." Psyche spoke carefully, eyeing Tsugaru. He was clearly testing the boundaries of attachment with the felines.

Psyche snatched the indifferent kitten up and laughed when it hissed. "This one is all black but if you look closely, it has eight different shades of brown on his face. So this one is Hachimenroppi!"

"It's a good name," Tsugaru agreed, though he thought it a bit strange.

"Fine." The woman vet wrote the name down. "Next."

"That one looks like it's wearing a scarf so let's call it Scarffle!" Psyche pointed at the black kitten that never strayed far from the first named kitten. "Scarffle" was completely black except for white fur lining his chest and neck. Hachimenroppi bit Psyche when he tried to pet the smaller kitten.

"I don't think that one approves," Tsugaru laughed.

The vet's eyebrow twitched. "Hurry it up."

He pet the angry kitten behind its ears. "Its marks from behind look like the moon. I think Tsukishima is better."

"Got it."

Tsugaru continued, picking up the tricolor kitten that was normally calm unless teased by the troublemaker of the bunch. "This one is Shizuo."

Psyche nodded eagerly. "I like that! And this one looks like he's Shizuo's brother except he's only white and black like a butler. He has to be Shitsuo!"

"Weird names. Noted."

Tsugaru’s locked on stare on the woman narrowed. She was so rude when his cute Psyche was doing his best in this crucial time! Red was starting to invade the slits of his eyes. Psyche patted his bicep and shook his head. "Tsu-chan."

Tsugaru stared a bit longer before he sighed and nodded. When he closed his eyes, he could relax into the seat. All he could feel was Psyche's grip grounding him into the here and now. Psyche and six sets of paws clinging to his shirt. He couldn't help but laugh. "These ones are eager for their names."

Psyche wistfully pet the black kitten with gray paws. "Let's name this one next."

Tsugaru opened his eyes and stared at the cat. It stared back and it...actually creeped him out. He wasn't sure cats could smile but this one definitely was, if they could. "Izaya."

"I've never heard that name before." But Psyche shrugged and nodded to the woman. She sighed but said nothing further. "The other two look like him."

The couple eyed the golden eyed kitten that never ceased to meow and the calm kitten with baby pink eyes.

"Since Shitsuo derives from Shizuo's name, how about we do the same with these two?"

"Yes!" Psyche chirped. He bounced giddily in his seat. "That one is a prince! And the other one has eyes like cherry blossoms!"

"So...Oujiya? No, that sounds odd. Hibiya. And...Sakuraya?"

The angry scratch of pen on paper cut through the air.
