There was nothing to do but wait until Shizuo woke up. Izaya was terribly bored in a matter of minutes, and so he went into the kitchen like a curious cat.
The blond debt collector woke up to a warm buttery smell. He lifted himself up and peered into the kitchen. His mouth fell open when he say Izaya spreading butter over slices of toast.
“Ah…Heiwajima-san. I thought you would be hungry after waking…would you like some?”
“Sure,” Shizuo grunted and left the couch to sit at the small table in the kitchen.
He sniffed the slices of bread before popping them in his mouth. It was surprisingly good, he had expected Izaya to slip something weird in his pieces.
“Do you live alone, Heiwajima-san?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you have a girlfriend, Heiwajima-san?”
Unfortunately, Shizuo was in the process of swallowing a piece of toast when Izaya asked this, and he proceeded into having a coughing fit.
“WHY-”
“S-sorry! I was just c-curious!”
Izaya fiddled with his hands as Shizuo’s coughs began to subside. Shizuo wiped away the crumbs on the corners of his mouth.
“Don’t call me Heiwajima-san.”
“Eh?”
“Didn’t you hear me?! DON’T CALL-”
“I heard, I heard!”
Izaya looked up at the blond giant nervously. “W-what should I call you then?”
“Whatever you want, just not Heiwajima-san…it’s freaking weird.”
“Shizuo-san then?”
“The hell is with you being so polite?”
“Then…what would you want me to call you? Is there something you’re more used to?”
“Shizu-ch-” he stopped. He covered his mouth in surprise. Why in the world had he thought about that infuriating nickname?
“Shizuo…san?”
Shizuo grunted, pushing his sunglasses up. “Shizuo-kun. That’s what you used to call me in high school.”
“We went to high school…together?”
“Yeah.”
Izaya motioned at the picture sitting on a cabinet. “Is that when we were in high school?” he asked, hoping that Shizuo wouldn’t blow up again.
The blond got up to look at the picture better. He picked it up and brought it to the table while muttering to himself. He pointed roughly at the first person in the row.
“That’s you, see that? You were a bit of a bastard in high school. Now, you’re just a bastard,” he grumbled.
“Um…”
Shizuo moved on, “That’s Shinra, I don’t have to explain, so I’m not going to.”
“Uh-”
“Kadota. He’s alright, see him once in a while in town,” his finger moved to himself, “and that’s me. I was pissed that day ‘cause I had to be in a picture with you.”
Shizuo slammed the picture frame down the table, making Izaya flinch at the loud noise. The brunet opened one eye tentatively and saw that Shizuo was staring at him with narrowed eyes.
“Goddammit, you’re annoying, maybe even more annoying now than usual.”
Izaya watched as Shizuo, while grumbling to himself, went to his bedroom and closed the door, leaving Izaya at a loss of what to do.
