Shinra mentally face palmed himself as Shizuo approached, no, stomped his way towards them. Izaya stared at the thundering blond in bewilderment.
“Is that another friend - I mean acquaintance of mine, Shinra-san?” Izaya asked.
“You could say that…we should run.”
“Eh? Shouldn’t we say hi first?”
“I’ll explain later! Let’s just-”
Shinra clapped his hands over his ears as a trash bin narrowly missed Izaya. Desperately, he grabbed Izaya’s arm, urging him to run.
“Y-you’re right, that person’s dangerous!”
They sprinted around the park, Izaya refused to cut across. “What if he hits anyone in the park, we can’t involve innocent people in this!” he yelled, wincing at the crashing noise of another trash bin landing just an inch away from him.
Just as Shizuo was about to rip a signpost out of the ground, Celty cut in front of him with her hand out. Her PDA was out in a flash and read, [Wait! You might hit Shinra!].
“Don’t worry, I have good aim.”
Celty stepped off her motorcycle in a hurry. Apparently even the risk of hitting another person didn’t concern Shizuo when Izaya was involved. Her shadow slinked up Shizuo’s body and covered the hand that was hovering over a signpost.
[Stop. Please. You can’t hurt Izaya either.]
“What?! Celty, why are you helping that vermin?”
[Just don’t throw anything at him. Come on, Shinra can explain.]
Shizuo grumbled but followed Celty anyways. He glared at Izaya as they approached the two. He hated that louse’s face, some stupid mixture of curiosity and terror. He'd never seen that kind of expression on him before.
“C-Celty-san. Y-you know him?” Izaya stammered.
“What the hell? Stop playing you’re stupid mind games, Izaya!”
“Hiii! I-I don’t know why, but I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”
“Izaya-kun, I’m going to have a little talk with Shizuo, okay?”
“Eh? D-don’t leave me!”
“Don’t worry, Celty will be here…right Celty?”
[Sure.]
“Great. Shizuo, I need to talk with you.
Shinra pulled Shizuo aside, putting just enough distance so Izaya could see the two of them, but he couldn’t hear anything they were saying. Shinra waved cheerfully at Izaya to reassure him that everything was fine.
“What’s going on?” Shizuo grunted.
“Izaya has lost his memories.”
“…he’s lying.”
“I checked for that. He really has no clue as to who he is. And I’m guessing that you caused his memory loss.”
“What? Why?”
“Can you tell me when was the last time you saw Izaya?”
“A few days ago. I threw a vending machine at him and he passed out. So I-oh…”
“Izaya’s only memory is of something hitting him on the head. He described it as red with ‘soda’ written on the side.”
“Hm.”
“Can you take care of him?”
“Me? Why me? He prefers being with you anyway!”
“Shizuo, I can’t make passes at Celty when he’s around,” Shinra sighed dramatically, “and anyways, you’re the one who caused this in the first place. He just needs someone to stay with, until he can get back up on his feet.”
“…fine. But I’m making sure he really has lost his memories,” Shizuo growled as he stomped towards Izaya and Celty while picking up a mailbox.
“Wait, I already-!”
Shizuo ignored him and tossed the mailbox over the Izaya’s head. He purposely aimed at least a foot higher than the brunet’s head, and was surprised to see a terrified Izaya crouching while holding his head.
“Celty-sannnnn! He keeps trying to kill me!”
Was he crying? The blond’s eyes widened as he watched fat tears run down Izaya’s cheeks. Even Izaya wasn’t that good of an actor.
