Shizuo has never been good at expressing his feelings, even to his own brother. He thinks he can be excused if he doesn’t analyze them himself either. When he gets angry he doesn’t try to explain himself in the aftermath, wasting breath on pointless apologies. He knows it will all happen again.
When he fights Izaya, he doesn’t think of anything.
“Celty said you wanted me.” Izaya greets him, hands in his pockets, mouth stretched into a taunting grin.
“Izaya.” Shizuo scowls and says, “I’m busy.” though he has nothing to do.
He doesn’t recall what is said after that. Shizuo is left with leftover fury and the usual impression that Izaya is completely batshit. The vending machine is leaving his hands before he has time to process the action.
It skids to a stop in a tumble of glass and soda cans, sending pedestrians fleeing. Shizou growls furiously, wiping away the hot blood from a slash across his cheek. He catches a flash of fur-trimmed coat turning the corner and sprints after it.
Izaya dodges a coke, which breaks the window behind him with a loud crash... and jumps into a waiting van.
"It was nice talking, Shizu-chan!" he calls out the window, waving. The van pulls away from the curb with a squeal of tires and the smell of burt rubber.
Shizou is left on the empty street, panting, hands on his knees. He spits into the drain and straightens up slowly, smoothing out the wrinkles in his vest and replacing his glasses.
