After stocking up on milk, eggs, bread, ramen, and other necessities, he stepped outside the supermarket and started walking home. There weren't much people on the streets and he was grateful otherwise they'd pissed him off by splashing on a puddle or somethimg equally stupid.
He hummed softly and passed an alleyway when he heard a soft cry. He turned back, looked left and right before shrugging. He took another step and a 'meow' echoed from the alleyway.
"Must be some stray, poor thing. When their owners don't want them anymore, they just throw them out and expect them to fend for themselves. Buncha jerks," Shizuo ranted as he walked in closer. He looked around before seeing something squirming under a news paper. He knelt down and lifted the soaked paper up to see a little boy partially soaked.
"Meow," he whimpered, trying to cover his ears from the cold dripping water. He had black ears and a long fluffy tail and looked up with red eyes.
"Come on kitty, this is no place for you to be staying, especially in a down pour like this." Shizuo reached out and the kitty recoiled defensively, shivering from fright.
"Don't be scared, I won't hurt you." Shizuo knelt down and extended a hand, in which the kitten sniffed before looking up curiously. Shizuo smiled and the kitten rubbed its head against his hand, purring a bit. Shizuo scooped it up by the stomach and it gave a clueless ‘meow.’
“I’ll take you home,” Shizuo assured, and glanced over at the box. It had in big and red ‘Take me home please' sign written on the front and inside had a ratty towel and a few pieces of string. It obviously was abandoned and Shizuo continued muttering about the filth of humanity as he walked the rest of the way home with the kitten in his arm.
Shizuo opened the door and dropped the kitten in the hallway and it started shaking itself to get the water off. Shizuo walked to the kitchen it followed after curiously, red eyes wide and trying to take in as much as possible of his new environment.
While Shizuo was packing his groceries in the proper place, the kitten walked about. He saw a bottle cap and sprang at it, pawing it playfully before he was scooped up again.
“Here.” Shizuo placed it in front of a saucer with milk and it sniffed it cautiously before lapping it up, slowly before picking up speed. Shizuo smiled and watched it with soft eyes. He liked cats but he never got a chance to take care of one due to his busy work schedule. But now, since the opportunity arose, he might as well take it and do the best he could.
“How was it?” The kitten looked up gratefully and licked around its mouth. Shizuo nodded and was about to pet it when it recoiled slightly before rubbing his head on around his hand.
“You need a name but I’m not really good with that kind of stuff.” The kitten purred as Shizuo stroked it by the neck and felt something hard. He looked closer and saw it was a small collar with the name ‘Izaya’.
“Oh, Izaya huh? What a weird name.” As if taking offense, Izaya swiped at his hand and Shizuo chuckled at the attempt.
“Sorry Kitty but it takes more than soft paws to hurt me.” He chuckled again as it started biting his fingers and rolling on its back, looking up expectantly. Shizuo rubbed behind his fluffy ears and Izaya purred contently.
“Welcome to your new home, Izaya.”
