Happily enough, Wong Fu Productions came to the University of Chicago today to talk. My friend Emily (who has the same name as my sister, lol) and I both love Wong Fu, so we decided to hit the road and drive (all of one hour) to see them. :3

I meant to get up at 9AM, but I instead fell asleep and then got up at 11:30 instead... and then talked to Rei and Ri, showered, got dressed, did my make-up, and made and ate ramyun before Emily came around 2:40. I live about an hour away from UChicago, and her dad had taken the day off to drive us down there. He's really nice. :3

When we arrived, we ended up being dropped off really close to the building the event was being held in, which was basically a bio lecture hall, so Emily and I went to get lunch. We found a Starbucks in the UChicago bookstore, so we ate there.

I got a green tea latte and a falafel sandwich, both of which were pretty good. :9

While we were eating, Emily realized that she'd forgotten her gift to Wong Fu in the trunk of her dad's car, so she called him and he turned around so she could retrieve it. XD It was a really good thing, too, because the gift was a thousand cranes in rainbow colors, spelling out their names with the Nice Guy logo and the head of Spencer, their "mascot" (I guess).

Isn't it gorgeous? *o* The cranes kept falling off though, because Emily used a glue stick to glue them onto the board, and the frame didn't exactly fit, so we had to keep adjusting the plastic film covering the cranes.

Wong Fu arrived around 5, and I didn't take any pictures of them coming in because I didn't want to look super creepy, despite being one of the first people in line. >.> They all have... really nice skin? That was my first thought, other than, "oh my god I'm seeing them irl". /D;; But they were super nice. Ted passed out stickers to the people that were waiting in line, too. :D

But then they disappeared to set up, although Ted lingered to help arrange the merchandise table. I got a T-shirt! It's this Nice Guy one, and it's really cute. :D Emily also bought one, since she didn't when they came to Northwestern in the fall, and she put it on before the event started.

Eventually we paid for admission and got our hands stamped. Mine smeared right away, but you can still kind of see it!

It's a panda, and the V is for VIP. I paid five extra dollars so I could sit in the first four rows. >.> But it really paid off! We were in the second row, near the middle, and had a great view of everything.

Emily and I ate her gummy worms and camwhored while we waited for the event to start. And then they walked in and the whole room just filled with cheers and applause. WFP started talking about their tour and how they were excited to come back to Chicago. Phil had us raise our hands first if we knew who they were, then keep them raised if we had seen at least twenty of their videos (which most people had XD), then the same if we kept up with them on a weekly-ish basis.

And then he commented on how we were like, "ehhh, *reluctantly raises hand*" through the entire thing, and Wes countered with, "raise your hand if you're tired of raising your hand."

Eventually they showed us some videos just to highlight what it is that's typical of their work. We saw "Forever Endless Valentine of My Winter Heart", "When Five Fell", and David Choi's music video, "That Girl", as well as a CNN clip from 2009-ish about them.

After that, they talked about the process of making films, and how they're very low-budget and had to learn a lot on their own, how they met, the jobs they took on when work was sparse, and the things they're doing now. They also showed us a new short called "Kungfooled", which was absolutely hilarious. They also discussed (or ranted, as they called it) being on Youtube and how awkward it is for them to be posting things like stories that aren't exclusively comedy, and also about how they don't really want to only represent the Asian American community (although they don't mind); they want their videos to be for everyone.

During the Q&A session, they answered a ton of questions, ranging from what the biggest production they've worked with to whether or not they'd take interns. XD They also answered a girl's question on what it was like to live together right after they all graduated, which was met at first with a "not very stressful!" to "man, no one cleaned but me" from Ted, and a "I was the only one that vacuumed D:" from Philip. Apparently Wes did nothing though. XD;;

Man, they're really funny. They brought a lot of laughs from everyone even though they said they were terrible public speakers. It was a really, really great talk and awesome to listen to. :D

And then it was time for pictures and autographs! XD Since Emily and I were VIP, we got to be some of the first to take pictures. They were all really nice and shook my hand when I went up, and I also got stickers signed for people, as well as a page of my notebook for myself. :D

I look really herp-derpy though. /D;;

And then Emily gave them the poster with the cranes and they were all really impressed by it. :3 They even filmed her with it, so she'll most likely be on the next Wong Fu Weekends, which is super duper exciting. :DD They gave her hugs~

Needless to say, Emily was elated. XD

We chased them down in the lobby when they were signing stuff for non-VIPs and Emily got individual pictures with all of them, on my camera. I didn't because I was lazy and felt awkward. /D;;

And then Emily's dad came to pick us up and I felt like I was getting sick in the car ride back because my ears kept popping and my throat was really dry. But now I'm feeling better, so it's all good~

Overall, I had so much fun. Wong Fu were so nice and funny and really amicable despite having to sign a ton of stuff and take pictures with a bunch of people. They didn't even mind when I asked them to sign one more sticker in the lobby. XD I really hope they come back again over their next tour, so I can go again. :3

And to close, I'll leave you with a camwhore picture from when I was waiting to be picked up.
