The whole thing makes Meredith uneasy. By now, she thinks, she ought to be used to it: elevators, entire floors of buildings, entire buildings have appeared from thin air, objects come back that were lost or unwanted, pets return that were dead, people walk around wearing the same face. The island is a strange place. Strange things happen. That ought to be old hat.
An entire city, though, is something else entirely, and what makes it worse is the way, every time they pass a window, she glimpses an endless stretch of open sea and no sky. Her mind is quick to supply what-if scenarios she has to answer just as fast, the main one being What if it all comes caving in and the water gets in? Well, it's been like this forever, wherever it was. It isn't just going to break now.
What if it does?
She's been meaning to come down here for a while, but put off, admittedly, by what she's heard. As much as Meredith is given to rushing headlong into danger, she's learned her lesson the last couple times. They always seem to end with Sean getting hurt, not her, and she's not going to be the cause of that again, though he's the one at her side now. After talking to Jamie, though, she couldn't keep putting it off, didn't really want to, and she really should have a look at the medical supplies down here and the things everyone's been talking about. Even so.
"This is creepy."
