England, Round 4

Last night was hella low key. After some...decent Pad Thai for lunch, I spent the afternoon watching bad British game shows (The Weakest Link is still on here!!! Holy crap!) and feeling nauseous. Good times. Ordered some room service for dinner. Garlic bread: A-. Pizza: D+. The old saying about pizza always being good..SHENANAGINS. Pepperoni, chorizo and Jalepeno? Dear England, please visit Italy and Mexico, then rethink this pizza idea. KTHNX. Then I decided to plan out the next day (or today as we know it).

I went downstairs to the reception area and grabbed some brochures. I figured it was time to be a little touristy. I settled on taking a city sightseeing bus tour (ooooooooooooh) and a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. So after getting down to the bottom of a bottle of cheap Cali White Zin this traveling broad hit the sack. Only to wake up from a dream where i was dead or on fire or some ludicrous like that. Never fear dear readers! I assure you I am very alive and not scorched or maimed in the slightest. I got ready, packed up my crap (so I don’t do it last minute), then ventured out to the bus stop... only walking by it once and not getting lost at all. Great success!

We passed a whole lot of stuff that I took pictures of... most of which I can’t remember now. BUT, we went by the Manchester Untied Football Club’s stadium! Holy crap. The only time I have been in awe of a sports thing like that was the first time I saw Fenway. Then we drove to a mall with 260 stores in it and like a billion places to eat. Now that is the kinda place I’d go for retail therapy.

Off to the MOSI for me. It was a little confusing and... sadly, a little bit boring. The coolest part was the room dedicated to Manchester’s advancements in science, including 3 wee rooms dedicated to: Dalton, Jules, and Rutherford!!! I geeked out really hard. That could actually be an understatement. I grabbed some stuff for the kiddos in the gift shop and then got some food. Then on my merry way back to the hotel.

As I walked I took pictures of some things I missed on the tour because I am not quick enough to snap pictures while moving. A man stopped as I finished taking a picture, so he wouldn’t walk in front of me. Very nice. I thanked him. And because of my obvious lack of accent he asked me 50 questions. I went to the cross walk and he followed me to shake my hand. *enter awkward turtle motion here* Weird. I am American... I am pretty sure you aren’t supposed to like me... or follow me to shake my hand.

Why does Vampire Weekend make all the awkwardness I re-felt writing that go away? Perhaps because it makes me want to dance around like a fool. Oh, A-Punk, I <3 you.

I would like to take this time to discuss a reoccurring sight here in Manchester. People walking down the street and singing. I saw it tonight on my way back from Tesco for croissants and Rice for more asian food. She was quiet though. Yesterday I saw a group of girls... hardly old enough to have known what a cd was during the great Spice Girls boom of the '90s, "singing" (and dancing poorly down the road) Wannabe. I can only hope tomorrow brings me a more rocking rendition of another tune.

Oh. And before I forget... I have encounter the two cutest British children. One, today, was on my bus. As an elderly couple came up to the stop, he handed them tour brochures. He also stopped eating the sandwich his mom gave him mid-ride and told her they can't eat it after seeing the no food sign. He was precious. Not nearly as cute at the little girl in Argos. She had baby dread and couldnt have been more than 3. Her aunt was putting her rain boots on and she yelled "I have to stomp!"in the cutest little accent. She got off her aunt's lap and proceeded to stomp and hop to ensure her boots were securely on. Dear UK, please stop making my baby fever worse. K? Thnx.

Tomorrow is my last day here. I leave early friday morning. I need to finish shopping, Drink black current cider, and ride the ferris wheel. I think I can handle it.

I am really going to miss it here. Clearly, I'll have to do this again.

uk!, manchester
