So, bunch of stuff I haven't really caught up on lately. I'm going to leave the weekend at a couple-a bullet points ('cause mostly my thoughts on it are "yay! good weekend! yay!", and how much of that do you really want to hear?) and mostly write about Tuesday.
Very good, fun, sometimes relaxing weekend. The show was really fun, I thought I did a pretty good performance. It was nice performing with Christian again, and I love doing the holiday show. I already have a plan for some revamping of my costumes for next year if I'm cast as Magenta again. There was a huge audience which always helps to set a fun tone, and even though the movie didn't start until two o'clock in the morning, it was fun and energized.
As for the non-Rocky Horror parts, Genvieve, Michael, and I mostly stayed in, with very pleasant results, and had rehersal for Complete Works. We also had dinner with Dan and his wife on Sunday night. It was really cool to see him, and I look forward to visiting them in Pennsylvania sometime after all of our schedules get a little less work and show crazy.
Tuesday was my spoil-my-mom-for-a-day day. For the last few years, I haven't been able to do anything really special for my mom for her birthday. One of the biggest problem is that it's right after Christmas. The other is that two years ago, I quit my job because they were jerks, and I had Genevieve to take care of, and soon after, school. Last year, I had just finished school, and still didn't have a job. So my cash flow was less then pretty much anything, and I couldn't really do much for her. But, ths year, I went as all out as I could. Geneveieve, George, and I got her (and ourselves) tickets to see RENT. But, we didn't tell her this.
We started the evening by meeting Michael and taking her to dinner at the Macaroni Grill. She'd never been and she really loved the food. After dinner, Michael headed home, and the four of us to the city. We got to the theatre a half an hour early, only to see the line snaked around the block on two corners! What the hell!
Who the hell goes to see a show on a Tuesday?! Tuesday?! That's why I got the tickets for Tuesday 'cause no one goes to see shows on Tuesdays! Apparently, an entire theatre full of people thought the same thing. Now, I know the movie recently came out and still is in theatres, so I did expect the crowds to be larger. Which's exactly why I didn't want to do a weekend, 'acuse I figure peole work during the week, so there're still be a smaller crowd.
When we finally got in, maybe ten total seats were empty. I was floored. But, we had good center mezzanine seats, and the show was incredible. I loved Mimi. Quite possibly my favourite out of the live performers I've seen. I also really liked Roger, Collins, Joanne, and Angel. I pretty much hated Mark. He had a weak voice, and I really didn't like the way he portrayed the character. And Benny was terrible, but I've never really liked a Benny I've watched live, so I wasn't expecting much. And the rest made up for the ones I didn't like.
Frenchie Davis was also there. She was an ensemble character and the soloist. She did perfectly fine as the soloist. Certainly not the best I've seen (or heard), but she held her own. The problem with her was the parts of the show that she wasn't being the solist (which was most of it). It seemed like she was jus kind of standing arund awkwardly. Like she wasn't supposed to be on stage, but they had to stick her somewhere. I dunno. Not as impressive as the talk I've heard, but perfectly okay.
The most important thing was that my mom loved it. She had a blast and was very grateful. And, since she had nothing but the movie really to compare everyone to, she loved them all. She really deserved a spoil-y gift, and I'm glad I was actually able to give it to her this year.
