Trying to admire the unadmirable

Since I was raised to try to say something nice about everybody, I'll try to say something good about theorist Mark Halperin, author of "Is There A History of Sexuality?", "One Hundred Years of Homosexuality," and "How To Do The History of Homosexuality."

I always get him confused with Mark Helprin, the author of A Winter's Tale. I suspect that's unfortunate for the Helprin.

Come now, that's the American way! You wouldn't expect people to actually have some basis for thinking what they think, would you? Imagine the political ramifications!

Of course there's a basis to his "thought": his willful and complete ignorance of the historical scholarship on sexuality, and his own trite issues with gay rights.
