a close friend of mine was telling me this morning/last night about how his uncle used to go to humboldt state university when he was young. the joke was, the humboldt men are big and masculine--and so are the women!
this joke comes about because the boys in his dorm have been talking about how there are no cute girls here. my question and peeve is just that i've seen nothing but beautiful young women here, and it's absolute bullshit that they are more masculine here than anywhere else. when my friend tried to explain this to me, he just said, 'well it's because not very many women shave here.' This boy is very accepting and has nothing against people such as myself for whom shaving isn't an important part of their life. however, it still makes me wonder what it is about us, as a culture, that makes the women who ignore themselves so much--or just try to hide the fact that they can't ignore themselves and what they percieve to be faults--are often times viewed as the most desirable women. the women who change what they were given, surgically or temporarily, hair dyes, makeup, deodorant, breast implants, etc. it's these women who cannot bear the way that they naturally are, and so alter themselves. these, i feel, are the least feminine--because they are in fact, less human than other types of women. if you are no longer the way that you were intended to be--born as a woman, allowing yourself to be one, you're going against the current of femininity. just because boys also don't shave their armpits or legs doesn't mean that you are manly. it just means we're all human. we all have some basic similarities and some basic differences.
logic. what a thing it is. crazy crazy us.
