Settling in.

Well, I've been in England for about 3 weeks now, and things are starting to progress. It's taken a little bit longer than I was hoping and expecting, but it seems things are looking up. The biggest issue upon coming here is mostly getting myself set up with a bank account and obviously trying to find a job. I've had some call backs from some places but ran into a problem about having to prove my address. The companies need some sort of utility bill or bank statement to prove my address. The problem there is that in order to get a bank account, I need a proof of address in the form of a utility bill. Following me so far? Good. Now to get a utility bill in my name, I need to provide a bank account number!!! Catch-fucking-22!!! I've got a couple of appointments on Monday with some job agencies, and one of them will provide me with a bank letter which will enable me to open a bank account. But once that happens i really should be smooth sailing. The good news through all of this is that people have been contacting me back, and if I'm reading the guy I spoke with on Friday correctly, I should be getting some sort of work by the end of next week.

The flip side of all of this is that I'm really miserable without Weronika and my son. I miss them so badly sometimes, I can barely breathe. I knew it would be difficult, but I never dreamt it would feel like this. I know this is the best thing in the long run, but it's still difficult nonetheless.

I love living in Nottingham though. The people are unbelievably friendly, it's easy to get to the city center by bus. They run pretty frequently, and they're always on time. Traffic jams here mean an extra 10 minutes, but typically it takes about between 15-20 minutes to get to the city center by bus. And even more interesting is how helpful the bus drivers and just about anyone else is here. It's certainly not like Warsaw, where when you go into a store or shop or something, and you're treated like the enemy. The fucking bus drivers here say thank you to each and every person when they get off the bus. That and they even wait until everyone is sitting before they start moving. It's amazing. I've met some pretty fun people here as well, and went to a pretty good concert even. I went to this pub that's owned by a member of the punk band The Varukers and got to chat with him which was pretty fun. I really love telling the people here that I'm Polish, and I really love it when they compliment me on my English!!! I never go into too many details, as I hate to tell the story of my life, but it always makes me chuckle. What I really like is the fact that I can buy a DVD for less than a pack of cigarettes, and this has basically caused me to quit smoking. That's a good thing. And I've also re-discovered my love for fish since I've been here. There is so much choice of fish, and it's all relatively cheap, and it's all fresh. I love it. The butchers really know what the fuck they're doing, and I have access to lamb!!! Last night I made Beef and Guinness Stew for everyone that I'm staying with, and they all looked like vultures they way they devoured everything!!! I felt very happy watching it. I'm rambling now, so I suppose I should attempt to do something productive. It's sooo windy today, they're getting gusts of wind up to 70MPH!!! Like a hurricane. I'm going to attempt to brave the wind and get some food for everyone tonight. Not sure what I want to make...maybe something light and healthy like shrimp alfredo!!! hehe...
