I've been on another metal kick as of late. I was on a metal kick with everyone else a little less than a year ago, back when it was officially cool to like metal in a non-ironic way. You know, when The Sword released their album and people were excited about 6/6/06? Back then. But I'm on another one and I feel like I'm the only one. Which is fine but it's hard to express my rediscovered love of metal to a generation that calls shitty neo-metal "hardcore" so they can pretend it's not the same pile of shit that plagues rock radio these days. Also it's hard to explain British metal to a generation that thinks Harry Potter is worthy of being on a bookshelf in the same section as Lord of the Rings. Like "oh this is the dark one cause someone dies in it". Oooooooooooo.
Anyway, I digress. This is a fun time for me because I really don't know shit about metal. The more I listen to it the more I learn about how fickle the genre is. Or rather how fickle my taste in the genre is. One too many vocal harmonies or too little talk about dragons or future dystopias and I fold. There are probably only a few metal bands I actually like. Like Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden and that's it so far. I'm sure there are countless bands I will discover before I die, but those are the only ones that strike my fancy so far. Oh wait also Saxon, can't forget Saxon.

But mostly I've been listening to a band that doesn't fit the mold of the previous bands mentioned. Metallica. Metallica is one of those bands that are a casualty of their legendary status. They are one of those bands that was totally fucking sweet for a good handful of albums, but were then forced to make more albums long after their time had passed because the music executives knew it would make money (or at least thats what I'd like to believe). Also because no one had the balls to tell them they sucked. Which has caused them to be misunderstood by this generation. Songs like St. Anger and that time where they did that lame symphony concert have equated them more with novelty than a band worthy of notoriety. But really, listen to their first few albums, their fucking amazing. They carry way more energy and originality than most of what passes as heavy music these days.
Another great thing about Metallica is their advocation for anti-piracy laws. If you download their albums it's like spiting the money craving assholes that they have let themselves become. It's also kind of like spiting the mediocre shit they have put out in the last two decades just to make money.

Anyway, enough of that. I think I was going to bitch about something...probably about that bar that the douche from Fall Out Boy is opening, or possibly how Grey's Anatomy is a show people actually watch free of irony. Or maybe something about my life. Oh well I forgot.
I'm off to write term papers now. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
