[Private to Narcissa]

Cissy, I need to you corroborate a story for me on Wednesday, alright?

What kind of story? What are you up to, Dromeda?

Shoe shopping, actually. I want a new pair of trainers, but obviously I'm going to have to go into the other part of London to get them, and obviously Mother and Father won't be just chuffed about that. Patch is going with me. Could you tell them we're just elsewhere in Diagon Alley? I only need two and a half, three hours.

Trainers, really? I hardly know what those are and I'm sure I didn't know you even had old ones. What would you use them for? Wouldn't you rather buy a nice pair of heels?

A new pair of shoes is always a good thing, though, I suppose. Of course I'll distract Mother and Father for you. I'd like to take them for a look at bridesmaid robes, anyway. Is there any colour you wouldn't be happy about wearing? Mother says Bella wouldn't look good in pink, so I don't think we'll be having anything on the red scale.

They're just general everyday shoes, you know, for when I'm not in uniform. You know I don't like heels, I feel like I'm always about to topple over in them. Boots are bad enough.

Thanks so much for covering for me, Cissy, I really appreciate this. I'm alright with anything but pink - if it looks bad on Bella it's going to look bad on me, too. Blue might be nice, though, just to put the idea out there. Did you have anything in mind?

Well, I suppose you're tall enough in flats. Not that you're too tall - I'm not saying that at all - but you wouldn't want to be taller than the boys, would you? I know Mother was considering Bernard Nott as a prospective boyfriend for you, and he's quite short. What do you think of him?

Perhaps a light blue would be nice. I'll take a look and bring some fabric samples home. I was considering pink, but of course Mother is correct in that it never looks quite right on you brunettes. Silly me! I think both you and Bella would look good in blue, though, Dromeda.

Bernard Nott? You're joking, surely.

Mm, I agree. It tends to go well with my eyes, personally, but of course your opinion's the one that matters here, Cissy. Honestly, you do what you want, nevermind Mother or us brunettes.

No, I'm very serious. I take it she didn't talk to you yet? Well, don't mention I said anything. I know he's of a good family, but I wouldn't like to see you with him, Dromeda. He doesn't seem either nice or charismatic, and being neither is unforgivable.

Well - of course Mother's opinion matters, and what you look good in! I'll talk to Lucius and see what he thinks - he's in the wedding party, too, after all.

He's wretched and creepy, you don't have to pad it, but I won't tell her you told. I'm not having anything to do with him, though, I wouldn't care if his family was pure as the driven snow back to Adam. Why does not seem to think I could find a boyfriend on my own, if I wanted one?

Oh, yes, mustn't forget what Lucius wants.

Well - yes. He is quite wretched. I confess that I was a little surprised when Mother mentioned it - as far as I know, she has never had too good an opinion about the Notts. Nouveau riche, I believe she used to call them. I suppose she's right.

Why don't you want a boyfriend, though, Meda?

No, I shouldn't forget what Lucius wants. You know how much I adore him. I want him to be just as happy about our wedding as I am.

Nouveau riche doesn't bother me, honestly. I'd take no riche at all over no decent personality. What I'm wondering, though, is why she'd suggest him if she doesn't even like his family. That can't bode well for me, can it?

Oh, I don't not want a boyfriend. I just don't fancy any of the boys at school. And think about it, even just the ones in Slytherin - Rabastan, Mulciber - Snape - no, thanks.

Shouldn't be difficult. As far as I can tell your presence the only fool-proof way of pleasing him.
