SOC 319: Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family tells me that if I have sex, I'll die. Sex is a terrible thing that should be saved for that disgusting necessity of marriage and otherwise for the bowels of hell. A black girl told us how terrible it was that she lost her virginity at 12 and had a baby whose father is now incarcerated. A 17-ish girl with gothish makeup said she wouldn't mind getting AIDS from someone she loved, like her boyfriend, as long as they could die together. A boy probably in the sixth grade told us it's ok, in fact great, to have sex in the 11th grade if you know the person and use contraceptives. "You're in the 11th grade, you can do whatever you want. I'd do it in the eighth grade." "Use a condom and a diaphragm...United we stand." He made me a little uncomfortable.
Then a Danish cartoon tells me that sex can be great, I just have to know what I'm doing. They then proceed to show me how to do it correctly. They familiarize me with both sexes genitals and say that everyone is different. Sex can be awkward and painful at first, but you don't have to have intercourse to have a good time. Kissing and petting and other forms of satisfaction are great ways to spend an evening. Oh yeah, and you maybe want some protection, too. A video made for 15-16 year olds. It also made me a little uncomfortable.
So what did you do in class today?
I talk too much.
