This is my very late review of Metallica's less old record Death Magnetic. It will be quite short, because there is very little to say of it. I just finally gave the thing a listen all the way through, and the result was a resounding "meh." It sounds like they took their good records (Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, Metallica, Load and Reload) and put the riffs in a blender and recorded those. The lyrics are pretty bland and kind of terribly boring. The solos seem forced at best, like a lame attempt to make up for the lack of solos in St. Anger. All in all, it seems to me that the band is trying way too hard and accomplishing nothing. If they wanted to make a decent album, my first recommendation would be for them to get Jason back. He seemed to be the only one in it for the music, not the cash. Which is probably why he left the band in the first place.
